William The Fairground Car, by Author, Irene J Harvey

The book is a series of ten stories, all featuring visits by children to the fairground.

William the fairground car is the main character of the merry-go-round, and he has seven other named carriage characters as his friends.

The title character and his friends talk to one another in a way that no one else can hear.

The stories are told from the perspective of William the car and his friends, and their enjoyment at making so many children so happy.

The target age is children 2 to 8 years.

How was William the Fairground Car born? Who is Irene J Harvey?

In 2004 I retired from my position as Managing Director of a Print Finishing Company in the UK. I have three adult sons and ten grandchildren.

I have been writing for children for almost as long as I can remember, initially for my own children, and then for wider family and grandchildren. I retired, with my husband David, to live on the beautiful Greek Island of Zakynthos, and now have time to give my writing my full attention and commitment.

The publication of 'William the Fairground Car' was a dream come true. I am currently working on my second series of ten stories, this time featuring and old unwanted London Bus, who has been chosen to go to the USA, to be converted into a Playbus. The stories are told from the perspective of the Bus, and his joy at what is happening to him.

Synopsis 'William the Fairground Car'

William the Fairground Car is a book containing 10 short stories. All the stories feature visits by children to the fairground. There are 116 pages and every page is illustrated. (over 100 great illustrations) William the fairground car is the main character of his merry-go-round and he has seven other named carriage characters as his friends. The title character and his friends talk to one another in a way no one else can hear.

Their conversations are engaging and encourage children to think in positive ways. The stories cover all the excitement and events the children experience when visiting the fairground, including fun rides on William's merry-go-round, sliding down the Helter-Skelter, and visits by elephants, clowns and ponies from the nearby circus, and seeing new things for the very first time in their young lives.

The stories are told from the perspective of William the car and his friends, and their enjoyment at making the children so happy. The target age range for my book are children up to about 8 years of age. It is ideal for parents to read to young children at bedtime (nothing to scare them!), and for young readers, who could read one story per day, and look forward to 'what happens next'.

A Little "Personal" History about Irene and William

Includes information on the Book Fair and Signing. and what's on the cards.

I found, to my delight, that I now had time to devote to writing, so started on 'William the Fairground Car'. I printed the stories via my computer, and showed them to the English 'ex pat' community here on the Island. I sold about 150 stories in no time, and was pressed hard by lots of people to submit them for publication. I had never even thought of that before, except perhaps as a remote dream.

Eloquent Books published my stories in December 2008, and I am doing well with sales on the Island and in Europe, but am really excited at having being given the opportunity to promote the book in the United States and Africa. My book has been accepted into the library of the Greek/American Union in Athens, and they have included it in their list of suggested reading. The book is being considered as an aid in teaching English on the Island. The children start learning English at age 7.

I had my first book signing at a Bar called Bally?Hoo in the resort of Tsilivi on the Island. It was very well attended and book sales far exceeded our expectations. My book has been introduced to the Major Greek Book Stores in Athens by a Greek Reporter, and we are confident that the major stores will soon be stocking William The Fairground Car. I am working on my second set of ten stories, and will have them published as time allows, and I look forward to the same measure of success and enjoyment as "William" has provided.

Hi, I am Irene Harvey, author of children's book, William the Fairground Car.
I really want you to get a copy of my book for your children. I know you will love it. Over 100 great illustrations to help learner readers 'read' the stories. It has ten short stories and is fun. It also is good to read to the little ones at bedtime.
I would love to connect to anyone who would like to know more about me and my book.
Hope to hear from you -

Donnette says:

As an ardent blogger, homeschooler and writer of educational books for little learners, my research has comfirmed that this book is absolutely ideal for teaching new vocaublary words to the preschool- early grade years. Ideally read to youngsters by parents or educators, the ease with which phonics and vocabulary will be mastered and recognised will be enhanced and accelerated in my opinion, with the addition of the absolutely magnificent illustrations (over 100), by artist I.E.du Toit.

This is a 116 page book of pure adventure for little people, and I so look forward to Irene publishing her new book, which I heard a birdie whisper is on the cards.
