Wind Turbine Blade Design: Is it important?

Wind turbine blade design is a very important chapter to insure an efficient and properly designed residential wind generator. You need to figure out the wind turbine cost and make sure you can afford to design it correctly, or it is not worth building in the first place.

So, yes, wind turbine blade design is one of the most important elements when creating a wind generator. Homemade created turbines are very easy to create as long as you do your research and learn the correct way.

Why is the Wind Turbine Blade Design so Important?

It is absolutely essential that the blades are designed in the correct manner. The size and length of blades can have a very dramatic effect on the efficiency and the usability of the wind turbine. If the actual unit cannot support the blades, the generator is redundant.

How Long Should I Design the Wind Turbine Blades?

This question does not have a generic answer. This all depends on the base of the turbine and the area you live in. It's premise is really simple: if you live in an area that has a lot of wind, you can use shorter blades or if you live in an area that has at least an average wind arriving at an average of 11 miles per hour, but not much more or you will find that you will need to use much longer blades.

What Material Do I Use to Create Wind Turbine Blades?

There are a few different types of materials you can use for wind turbine blade design and this will directly affect your wind turbine cost. Historically, turbine blades are created from carved wood, but this is of course VERY time consuming. A more modern and much faster method is to use PVC piping that is cut to the appropriate size.

Save the Envrionment with Residential Wind Turbines

That is right... you can help save the environment using wind turbines. You are no longer using the fossil fuels that were necessary to create the energy that your wind that your new home wind generators are now creating. You have taken a step to creating a much greener environment for your children's children to enjoy.

And let us not forget perhaps the largest incentive for creating a wind turbine, to save us some money! One windmill, created for less than $200, can power all of your household appliances!

This info is a good start... And one must start somewhere. What I would have liked to see here was a general, or basic, formula of blade length/area (surface area) to generator size/mass/output rating. In other words, if I have a certain generator, how can I calculate blade(s) needed.
What off-the-shelf parts commonly available can be strung together. Overall, this is a good first stop site. Thanks.
