Want to winterize your RV yourself? Here's how.

Many RV dealers offer RV winterising as a service through their RV service centre. The service is usually inexpensive. Often the service cost lest per hour than a repair. At Bancroft Motors RV Centre, we charge $90.00 for this service plus the cost of anti-freeze.

The reason I am posting this lens is to provide the "Do it yourselfers" with a list of things to do to winterize your RV yourself.

I am an RV and automotive sales consultant for Bancroft Motors in Bancroft Ontario. Although my expertise in sales, the service of your RV is important interest to me as well. I will continue to post more info on "do it yourself" RV maintainence and repairs in the future, to provide you with an alternative to taking your RV to a dealer or service centre.

Step 1: Remove the water from your RV's plumbing system

Prepare Your RV's Water System for Winterization

1) Blow out your RV's fresh water system.

2) Drain your RV's sewage tanks

3) Drain your RV's fresh water tank

4 Drain your RV's water heater ( Release PRV, Remove the outside drain plug )

5) Bypass the water heater ( connect hot and cold water lines together and prevent antifreeze from going into your RV's hot water heater. )

6) If the water filter is present, remove the filter and drain the container if required.

7) Disconnect your RV's fresh water tank line from the water pump and connect a temporary water line to pump.

Step 2: Flush the plumbing system with antifreeze.

Now it is time to run the antifreeze through your RV's plumbing system.

1) Insert the temporary water line from the water pump into a bottle of antifreeze.

2) Run your RV's water pump and pump antifreeze through all taps (Hot and Cold), toilet, outside shower and any other items connected to the RV's water system.

3) Ensure that at least one full cup of antifreeze goes down each drain.

Step 3: Put it all back together.

Your are almost done. Now it's time to clean up.

1) Blow the antifreeze out of your RV's plumbing system.

2) Reasemble the water pump.

3) Reasemble the fresh water tank.

4) Return the water heater back to normal operational mode.

If you are blowing out your RV or trailer with compressed air, do not exceed 40 PSI.

For Park Models:

For trailers, park models and RV's that do not have a water pump, an auxiliary pump must be used and connected to the city water connection, or kitchen taps, and then pumped through from there.

P.S.

Three more months to go before the Canadian RV season starts.

As many of you know, the Canadian dollar has dropped below 84 cents American. This directly affects the price of a trailer or RV. RV's that are purchased from the American manufacturers after the dollar dropped have to sell those RV's for as much as 22% over the price from the summer bought RV's.

Bancroft Motors still has 26 RV's that were purchased before the dollar dropped. This means you can save %22 percent right off the top. On top of that we have discounted all or our instock RV's by %15.

If you would like to know what we have left, please send a request to j.lloyd@bancroftmotors.ca and I'll send you a concise list.

Until next time, take care,

Jeremy Lloyd
