How does a Wireless Dog Fence Work?

If you want to stop your dog from jumping over the fence, digging underneath it or restricting its movement to a specific part of your yard then a wireless fence is the quickest and simplest way to achieve this.
Alternatively you can use an indoor wireless fence to stop your dogs from entering specific rooms, hovering around the dinner table while you are eating or from running out your front door when it is opened.

The problem with many dog fences is that they are difficult and take a lot of time to setup. The main reason is that you have to bury a wire underground which marks out the boundary for your dog. One of the main problems with a wire fence is that the wire can break or get damaged, perhaps through gardening, and it is very difficult to find where the break is. With a wireless fence you do not have any of these problems.
You can get both an indoor and outdoor wireless fence and both work in a similar way. You have a transmitter which you can locate in your home or garden and this transmitter emits a signal covering a certain area. Your dog wears a receiver collar which picks up the signal. If your dog gets near the boundary, the collar will initially emit a bleep to warn your dog. If your pet continues moving towards the boundary then it will receive a static correction which gets your dogs attention but doesn't harm him.
If your dog persists in moving towards the boundary then it will receive a slightly higher static correction, and this can go up to six levels. Your dog soon learns that if it keeps clear of the boundary then it can move around and is free to do what he wants.
The wireless fence can be plugged into your standard 110V plug and can be located in a cupboard, shed or garage, somewhere where it can't get wet. However, don't worry about the collar on your dog's neck as this is water proof. The signal can pass through walls and other obstructions so don't worry about that either. The signal produces a boundary which is a perfect circle in shape and can be set to cover an area anywhere from 30 to 180 feet.
If you want to increase the coverage or boundary area then you can add additional wireless fence transmitters. These transmitters can be positioned up to 150 feet apart and where they overlap the signal is canceled so that your dog can pass freely between the transmitter's boundaries and can access the whole area.
If you use a PetSafe outdoor wireless fence then this comes with a set of training flags and a complete set of instructions train your dog. You place the boundary flags at strategic points around your boundary and your dog will learn that if it passes these flags it will get a warning beep and a static correction if it persists.
A final point you should consider when looking at a wireless fence, is where you buy it from. There are many cheap versions around, but you have to be careful you are not buying refurbished units or returns, which are being sold as new.
One of the cheapest and best suppliers is Radio Fence. They offer free shipping and a 60 day money back guarantee. More importantly their customer service is second to none. I have been working with this company for over four years and on the rare occasions when something has gone wrong they have gone beyond the call of duty and sorted everything out quickly and courteously.

- Must be one of our biggest pet peeves...keeping the dog on the right side of the fence. The wireless fence solution looks great given that the old style fences could injure the animal. Think this is a must for all dog owners to look into.

- Invisible Dog Fences have evolved over the past 25 years. The expensive and somewhat ugly chain link dog fences have fallen by the wayside in favor of the new electronic dog fences, which use invisible radio waves. Dogs have a habit of jumping over or digging under chain link dog fences or other solid barrier dog fences. An Invisible Fence is a good idea if you want to keep your dog safe.
