New Amazon Wireless Reading Device Kindle 2

Amazon's Kindle 2 is coming with a well deserved splash; it really is a cutting-edge wireless reading device. The new Kindle has improved and new features, I'll describe all features later. The available memory is 1.4 Gigabytes and with such large memory Kindle 2 does not need a slot for SD memory cards. I predict, Kindle 2 will make the best gift of 2009.

The internal memory of the Amazon Kindle can hold approximately 200 non-illustrated titles.
Users can download content from Amazon in AZW - Kindle format or load unprotected Mobipocket (PRC, MOBI) or plain text content.

Amazon offers an email-based service that will convert HTML, Microsoft DOC, PDF, Pictures JPEG, GIF, PNG, and BMP documents to AZW format.
It also supports audio in the form of MP3s and Audible 2, 3, and 4 audiobooks, which must be transferred to the Kindle over USB

Users benefits are:
  • They can select reading material through the Kindle or a computer at the Amazon Kindle store
  • They can download content through the Kindle Store
  • Also send documents to a conversion service which will send a Kindle-formatted file to the device directly for $0.10 or to a personal e-mail account for free
  • Play music from MP3 files in random order in the background
  • Images and photos display on Kindle and can be zoomed to the full size of the screen
  • Wireless Access to Wikipedia

The device comes with electronic editions of
  • Owner's manual
  • The New Oxford American Dictionary.

The Kindle is constructed and sold at Amazon stores

To promote the new Kindle, author Stephen King has written a novella called UR, which is available exclusively as a Kindle download.

Note: With Whispernet and the Sprint national high-speed "EVDO" data network, the Kindle could be utilized weather you have a computer handy or not.

Good news about Kindle 2

Amazon Kindle 2
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said he's "determined" to keep the Kindle 2 in stock.
I hope he can deliver as request is definitely larger then the previous version of Kindle.

Popular Kindle Features

Kindle 2 includes all the features Kindle customers enjoy every day:
  • Choose from six text sizes
  • Add bookmarks, notes, and highlights
  • Read personal documents such as Microsoft Word and PDF, and view images, all delivered wirelessly
  • Search Web, Wikipedia.org, Kindle Store, and Your Kindle Library where customers purchased content is stored
  • No setup required, Kindle comes ready to use, no software to load or set up

The Kindle Store now includes many additional magazines and newspapers, such as The New Yorker, and more.
Magazines and newspaper subscriptions are auto-delivered wirelessly to Kindle overnight so that the latest edition is waiting for customers when they wake up. Monthly Kindle newspaper subscriptions are $5.99 to $14.99 per month, and Kindle magazines are $1.25 to $3.49 per month.

Kindle 2 vs. Kindle 1

If you have a Kinder 1 you probably ask yourself why I should bother with Kindle 2.

I'll lay out the differences, and you will be the judge.

They kept everything readers have on the original Kindle and they added a few improvements I am sure you'll enjoy:
  • Improved navigation: Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words
  • Sleeker design: Just over 1/3 of an inch, Kindle is as thin as most magazines and lighter than a typical paperback (10.2 ounces) which definitely makes Kindle 2 a portable devise
  • Improved Display: Read like real paper; now boasts 16 shades of gray for clear text and crisper images.
  • More memory: Kindle 2 comes with 1.4 Gigabytes of available internal memory so you can carry over 1,500 titles and no longer need an SD memory slot for additional storage.
  • Longer battery life: With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, example - shopping at Kindle Store and downloading content.
  • Read-to-Me: remarkable text-to-speech feature, Kindle can read every book, blog, magazine, and newspaper out loud to you
  • Integrated power and USB: You can now use a single cord to charge your Kindle from a power outlet or connect it to a USB port for charging and file transfer
  • Expanded Kindle's national coverage: to include more cities and areas in all 50 states, enabling wireless downloads of books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs
  • Whispernet wireless connection that utilizes Amazon's optimized technology and Sprint's national high-speed (EVDO) data network: used to enable us to wirelessly search, download and read content on the go. With Whispernet, you can be anywhere in Sprint's high-speed data network coverage area, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning and most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands.

We can use Kindle 2 outside the wireless service area because Kindle 2 was designed with the traveler in mind.
With a computer with an internet connection and a USB port, you can buy and download content from anywhere in the world. You can make purchases from the
Kindle Store on Amazon, download items to your computer, and transfer the files to your Kindle using the USB connect

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Doomed by Price?

Apple's iPhone 4 (32GB)

Apple iPhone 4 Black Smartphone 32GB (AT&T)

Amazon Price: $435.00 (as of 02/16/2012)Buy Now

There is a version with 16 GB as well, but this one is what I like it the most.
With a 1Ghz CPU, and 16GB or 32GB of flash memory, this iPhone is a portable office/entertainment center par excellence. It has a very sharp display, the apps load very fast, and with an average of 50-100 apps you can perform just about every action you could possibly think of with absolutely no impact on performance.
It is funny but I no longer need my laptop cause there's nothing I cannot do with the iPhone, and that includes sending faxes, editing Excel or Word documents, and even printing.
