Exercise bikes are great if you want to slim down & tone your legs, but should you buy a recumbent or an upright exercise bike?
Recumbent bikes have a back rest and are low to the ground; therefore, they are great if you have balance problems or back problems. The recumbent lends itself to reading better than the upright bike.
A better choice for a bicyclist would be an upright bike because it feels more like an outdoor bike. than the recumbent bikes do. If you like to read while doing your cardio-vascular workout a recumbent bike is a better choice. Upright bikes usually take up less space than recumbent bikes.
You will want some resistance levels. You may get as many as 20 on some machines. In general I find that the resistance of bikes is very different than that of an elliptical machine. Level 4 on a bike is much more challenging than level 4 on an elliptical.
In general the more money you pay the more workouts you will get. However one top of the line model may give you 15 workouts and another model may give you 5.
