Titanium Defined

Titanium is a metal that hasn't been known all that long. It was discovered first in the late part of the sixteenth century, and its strength and toughness caused it to be named to mythical giants. There is a remarkable amount of titanium ore in the earth's crust - more than nickel, tin, lead, chromium, zinc, manganese and mercury put together - but pure metal is very rare and ores are dispersed thinly rather than in easily mined quantities.
Titanium is precious because it does not corrode, is compact, is non-toxic and very long lasting, however it was not utilized much until it was sought after by the defense and space industries in the 1940s. Nowadays it is used in various ways such as aerospace uses and cars, to buildings, sporting equipment, prosthetic limbs and even food coloring. In actuality, only five percent of the titanium we currently mine is used as a metal. The majority of titanium comes in the form of titanium dioxide, which is an opaque, white, nonreactive colorant that goes into paints, foods, plastics, paper, and various other things.
Titanium is lightweight. In fact, it is forty percent lighter than carbon steel, and is rendered tougher when combined with vanadium, aluminum, and some other elements. It conducts heat well, and is nonmagnetic and does not corrode by acids. It is bio-compatible and nontoxic, which makes it useful in many applications such as bio-material, petrochemical marine, buildings, and much more.
In about half of industrial uses, one will find a certain titanium alloy, called Ti-6A1-4V. This is a very cost effective and useful type of titanium, which makes up aircraft parts, and prosthetic limbs. It is also the general alloy used to compare with others when selecting the best type of titanium.
In the petrochemical industry, this metal is used in reactors and heat exchanges. In the automotive industry, it makes up suspension springs, valves and connecting rods. When it comes to sporting goods, titanium is used to make golf clubs, high end bicycles, tennis rackets and sport wheelchairs.
Other uses of titanium include turbine blades and condensers used in power plants. Additionally it is found in buildings in the form of cable piping and roof supports, and even in the human body. Joint replacements, bone splints, hearty pumps and valves and other beneficial devices to aid the human body are used because the body breaks down other metals or may not accept them, making titanium the premier choice for bio-applications.
Titanium is a non-magnetic metal. Therefore, it is a perfect for use in computer parts such as microchips and disk drives that can sustain damage by magnetic charges. Watches and other jewelery are made with this versatile metal, as well as memory frames for eyeglasses. There are numerous uses for titanium that benefit us greatly.
Titanium mines are a rare find; however, there are so many uses for this amazing metal. It makes aesthetically pleasing pigments for paint, makes buildings sturdier, and aids people with medical problems to live better. This metal makes our lives more convenient and productive, whether it is used for a power plant, or sporting equipment. The next time you see titanium, have a think about everything this multifaceted metal does for you.

Every bride fantasizes about a flowing, elegant white gown crafted from beautiful fabrics to make her look like a princess on her special day.
The tradition of wearing an elaborate, white, floor length gown originated in the Victorian Era. Prior to the rise in popularity of the white wedding dress, wedding gowns were often shorter and used bold colors like black and red. It was Queen Victoria who popularized the style of gown that is now every woman's fairy tale. After she married Albert of Saxe-Coburg in 1840, women sought to pay homage to the Queen by imitating the style of dress she had chosen.
While the modern white wedding gown is usually associated with a symbolic meaning like virginity, purity, or new beginnings, this was not Queen Victoria's intention when she had her wedding gown created. She wanted to incorporate into her gown a white lace that she was particularly fond of, and she decided that white was the most fashionable color choice. Whatever the origin of the tradition, white wedding dresses have been worn by women for centuries on this most special of days.
In the twentieth century, bridal gowns were incorporated with embroideries and beautiful laces that truly gave them a more elegant and classy look. Veils and wedding dresses with long train became popular too. During those days, the cost of the bride?s gown reflected on how rich and affluent she was.
Today, bridal gowns are no longer considered a status symbol. Beautiful wedding dresses and gowns are available in a variety of price ranges, so that any bride can look lovely on her wedding day.
As time evolved, wedding dresses have modified. But still, more women prefer wearing gowns that were commonly used in the olden times. For them, nothing beats the elegance and natural beauty of a perfect long white gown that truly makes the most special day of their lives more memorable.
