As you would know toddlers are full of energy and you have to have a lot of energy to keep up with them.
At this age toys are a huge and necessary resource for toddlers. They love to investigate everything and soak up new information like sponges.
Toddlers love Interactive toys, bright colored toys and ones which they can push and pull.

My daughter was 18 months old when she got this for a gift. It has been a favorite of hers ever since and she's two and a half now.
This is just perfect for little fingers (and mom's fingers too)! The teapot holds enough water to fill four cups and the four cups are big enough to hold more than a drop of 'tea'. Yet they are small enough that a spill does not equal a disaster.
Everything fits onto a sturdy tray and my daughter seems to have no difficulty carrying the tray with everything on it. There is a cute creamer and sugar bowl and spoons that are just perfect for using.
The teapot plays I'm a little teapot when the button on top is pushed and makes cute tinkly sounds when the teapot is tipped to pour. It is a pleasant sound and not so loud that it annoys.
If you are like I am and look for gifts that encourage creative, imaginative play this teapot is perfect. If you look for toys that do more than blink or play music at a push of a button, this toy fits the bill. It is fairly quiet and easy to play with and fun.

We got this for our 22 month old for Christmas, and like all the other Little People toys it's fantastic. He loves playing with it, and tonight spent most of the evening launching anything he could find out of the cannon (the pirates, the parrot, basically everything BUT the cannon ball!). Our three year old and seven year old have also been having fun with it. I expect the pirate ship to hold up well, since we still have the Little People Farm that we got for our daughter over 6 years ago and it's in great condition after years of tough play! This is a unique and cute toy that kids just seem to gravitate toward. And yes, it's a pain to get out of the box, but well worth the effort!

Child Development and Toys
Toys, like play itself, serve multiple purposes in both humans and animals. They provide entertainment while fulfilling an educational role. Toys enhance cognitive behavior and stimulate creativity. They aid in the development of physical and mental skills which are necessary in later life.One of the simplest toys, a set of simple wooden blocks is also one of the best toys for developing minds. Andrew Witkin, director of marketing for Mega Brands told Investor's Business Daily that, "They help develop hand-eye coordination, math and science skills and also let kids be creative."
Other toys like Marbles, jackstones, and balls serve similar functions in child development, allowing children to use their minds and bodies to learn about spatial relationships, cause and effect, and a wide range of other skills as well.
One example of the dramatic ways that toys can influence child development involves clay sculpting toys such as Play-Doh and Silly Putty and their home-made counterparts. Mary Ucci, Educational Director of the Child Study Center of Wellesley College, demonstrates how such toys positively impact the physical development, cognitive development, emotional development, and social development of children.
Toys for infants often make use of distinctive sounds, bright colors, and unique textures. Through play with toys infants begin to recognize shapes and colors. Repetition reinforces memory. Play-Doh, Silly Putty and other hands-on materials allow the child to make toys of their own.
Educational toys for school age children often contain a puzzle, problem-solving technique, or mathematical proposition.
Often toys designed for older audiences, such as teenagers or adults demonstrate advanced concepts. Newton's cradle, a desk toy designed by Simon Prebble, demonstrates the conservation of momentum and energy.
Not all toys are appropriate for all ages of children. Some toys which are marketed for a specific age range can even harm the development of children in that range.

Teaching Hearing Infants Sign Language to Communicate
In the United States, teaching sign language to non-signing families to communicate with their hearing infants and toddlers was developed by Linda Acredolo, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of California, Davis, and Susan Goodwyn, professor of psychology at California State University, Stanislaus.Their research began in 1982, and produced a 1985 article in Human Development titled "Symbolic gesturing in language development: A case study."
Joseph Garcia, an ASL interpreter and a leading proponent of use of ASL in communicating with infants and toddlers, began with his graduate thesis in 1986, an analysis of the role sign language could play early childhood language acquisition.
His research indicated that babies who are exposed to signs regularly and consistently at six to seven months of age can begin using signs effectively by the eighth or ninth month.
These proponents believe that while infants and toddlers have a desire to communicate their needs and wishes, they lack the ability to do so clearly because the production of speech, which requires coordinating the lips, tongue, breath, and vocal cords simultaneously, lags behind cognitive ability in the first months and years of life.
This gap between desire to communicate and ability often leads to frustration and tantrums.
Proponents believe that hand-eye coordination is possible in advance of the acquisition of verbal skills, and that infants can learn to express their needs using simple signs for common words such as "eat", "sleep", "more", "hug", "play", "cookie", "teddy bear", etc., before they are able to produce understandable speech.
