Wooden Dog Houses give your pet a comfortable place to stay.

Wooden Dog Houses have long been used to help shelter dogs from the harsh environment when they are outdoors. For a while the public were buying cheaper plastic dog houses, but now wooden dog houses are making a comeback.

Wooden Dog Houses

In recent years, wooden dog houses seem to have fallen out of favor. At one time, you could go to your local hardware store and purchase a nice, prebuilt wooden dog house for your pet. Now, it has become a bit difficult to find one of these, for the popular choice for dog house material is now a hard, durable plastic. In order to purchase any type of wooden dog houses that is already put together, you might have to settle for one that is a bit fancier than what you prefer. Wooden dog houses have crossed the line from simple to luxury, and are now considered a premium item because of the incredible detail they are now built with. There are still some simple wooden dog houses available for sale, but you may have to hunt them down, as it seems everyone in need of no-frills shelter for their dog has turned to the plastic igloo or barn type of doghouse.

The price of wood also has had an effect on the number of Wooden Dog Houses you see for sale. Wood is a lot more expensive than it used to be, and this cost is reflected in the price of the finished doghouse. Wooden doghouses are also heavier to ship to stores than their plastic cousins. People tend to think a plastic doghouse is more "modern" and the demand for plain wooden dog houses that many dog owners grew up with in their backyards has dropped sharply.

This is puzzling, as Insulated Cedar Dog Houses are far superior in the long run to the plastic type. Not only do they last longer with proper care, but the wood gives better protection from heat, cold and dampness as it naturally insulates the animal inside. A house built from wood is more sturdy and weather resistant than the plastic kind of dog house. The plastic "igloo" shaped houses all have a cap on the top that is supposedly for ventilation. Most dogs figure out very quickly how to pry off this cap, and use it for a chew toy. Then, you are left with a dog house that has a hole in the top of it!

Dogs also like to chew the bottom front of the plastic houses as they lay inside. A wooden house is more substantial and not as apt to be chewed by your pet. If you do see signs of chewing, there are simple repellants that taste bitter to the dog which you can apply to the wood. This will put an end to any chewing quickly. Plastic dog houses also usually sit directly on the ground. It is much better for the dog's comfort if a dog house is elevated off the ground. This is easy to do with a wooden dog house, but not so simple with a plastic one.

With some persistence, you can find wooden dog house kits that you can build yourself. All of the wood, screws, and bolts are usually included. Or, you can purchase a number of plans to build wooden dog houses, sort of like blueprints for human houses. There are many designs to choose from that can be built in any size you want. You choose the type of lumber, the type of flooring, the finished color, decide on all the details yourself, and can create a wooden dog house that will be perfect for your situation and your dog.

You want Wood Dog Houses that will protect your beloved dog in all types of weather, and also one that will be durable. Wooden dog houses are a very ecological choice for your pet, and one that you will be very satisfied with.

Your thoughts about wooden dog houses.

Some people think wooden dog houses are the way to go. Others think that a plastic one will do just fine. Which side of the fence are you on?
