Woodworking Training

There are many different woodworking power tools on the market. You may wonder why there are so many options available in the selection. There is good reason for the vast selection of woodworking power tools. Following are three items that perform very different jobs in the intricate process of wood-working projects.

I chose this particular item for discussion because I could never wrap my brain around the concept of buying so many tools for one type of work. A writer needs a pen and paper or a computer and that is pretty much it. My husband seems to need a plethora of woodworking power tools to finish one project. I discovered that each item has a particular function.

Woodworking Tools

Some projects require rounded edges in the woodwork. A scroll saw is designed for creating round edges for items like tabletops and arches in windows. This is one of the woodworking power tools that remain stationary while the craftsman works around the blade. The blade sits in the middle of the table and the wood is maneuvered around it.

Projects like deck construction require making pieces that fit together like puzzle pieces. A radial arm saw is great for creating what my husband referred to as compound angles. These are particular angles that have to fit together just so. It requires the woodworking power tools to make precise measurements and consistent angles and edges.

My personal favorite among the woodworking power tools is the router. The router is a hand held power tool that is used to make just about any kind of edges. I like the router for two reasons: it is hand-held and it creates decorative edges in the wood. I would be comfortable using this item myself.

The router is used to create furniture that has intricate designs and details. The item is great for trim work like crown moldings and floorboards. The designs are created with bits that fit right into the woodworking power tools. There are hundreds and hundreds of different bits that each creates a unique design.

I still have a long way to go when it comes to completely understanding woodworking power tools. Fortunately, I have found one in particular that I like. Maybe if I have an opportunity to create something of my own I will have opened the door to a new creative adventure.

The router is the not first of the woodworking power tools that we are going to purchase. After all, it is for detailing and finishing projects. I guess that the best should be saved for last.
