Creating a Keepsake

Wool felt baby shoes have given me the chance to combine 3 of my favorite things; wool felt, blanket stitching and silk ribbon embroidery. Many hear the word "wool" and immediately think that wool felt is going to be scratchy and itchy. Contrary to that belief, wool felt is actually very soft and pliable. Much thicker than craft felt, it has a body to it that is easy to work with and durable. Wool felt can be expensive but comes in an endless variety of colors and variations. Blanket stitching has also been a favorite pastime of mine. The endless colors and the repetitious way of the stitch has always brought me a satisfaction of completion. Silk ribbon embroidery is something I began experimenting with about 6 months ago. I love the look of the dainty florals, leaves and vines but have found that this craft needs strict attention. Pulling too tight or not tight enough can cause the finished project to look sloppy. I love it though as when you make that first rose and actually see it blossom before your eyes...you are hooked! I also use flower embellishments, Venice lace, satin ribbons and a variety of other trims to decorate my shoes. Combining these crafts to create adorable infant shoes has become a "therapy" for me. It's portability and the endless designs will continue to captivate me for years to come!
