Woopy Jumping Basics and Information

Woopy Jumping uses an aerofoil (otherwise know as a wing) to allow the skiier or snowboarder to glide very long distances or jump incredibly high. The rush of skiing combined with that of flying is a feeling unmatched by anything else.

Woopy Jumping was designed by a man named Laurent de Kalbermatten. He used many different types of wings during his test trials of the new extreme sport. The delta-shaped wing is the final culmination of all of his hard work, and represents a major advancement in extreme snow sports. His ultimate goal was to create a safe and reliable system that would allow users to take skiing and snowboarding to a whole new level. It's safe to say that he definitely succeeded!

The pilot of the Woopy Jumping aerofoil uses a set of handles, one for each hand, to control the kite. The handles are connected to a light-weight tubing assembly that spans the entire width of the delta wing. According to the designer, the pilot can begin soaring across the slopes at speeds as low as 20Km/h. Imagine the kinds of leaps and jumps you could pull off with this thing!

The sport is incredibly new, but there is already a Woopy Jumping park in Switzerland where newcomers can learn the ropes. Woopy Jumping is sure to spread to the United States in the coming months and years, and it will provide a new way for adrenaline junkies to get that new rush...just check out the video!

Woopy Jumping is a very exciting sport because it allows you to soar through the air like a bird. Unfortunately, the sport is so new that it can be diffcult to find equipment and gear, especially in the United States. However, one other sport that is similar to Woopy Jumping...and probably less dangerous (=...is kitesurfing. The basic concept is that you hang on to a kite while you ski/snowboard/wakeboard across the water or snow. Kitesurfing can be quite an adrenaline rush, and it can deliver speeds of 50mph and jump heights in excess of 50 feet!
