Starting A Web Based Business
Thinking of Starting A Web Based Business? Or have you 'bitten the bullet' already?
Whatever stage you're at, you'll know that one of the things you must have in order to succeed is traffic.
That's traffic with a capital 'T', and not just any old traffic...
But 'targeted traffic'.
Let me try and explain:
Starting A Web Based Business is just the beginning and the start-up is relatively easy. Get yourself a domain name, a hosting company, design and build your web site and bingo...
You're off!
As I say; that's the easy bit (believe it or not). Turning your internet business into a success is just that little bit harder.
The web is full of 'gurus' and 'experts' offering the earth in return for large doses of your hard earned cash.
Don't be conned or seduced by 'hypnotic' sales copy and don't be led, when starting A Web Based Business, into thinking that there are any 'magic bullets' - A quick and easy path to success.
E-Mail Marketing
You've probably heard that one of several ways of attracting traffic to your web based business is by email marketing...
But for this you will need a List. That is a list of opt-in subscribers who have given their e-mail addresses and who, we hope have asked to receive your messages.
But please, double please and pretty please, do yourself a big favor - When starting a web based business, refrain from trying to short cut the process by buying bulk E-Mail lists. Nine times out of ten you will certainly be wasting your time, and your precious money.
I'm sure you'll have seen advertisements (or even received e-mails) that almost shout at you: "1,000,000 email addresses for $49.99" or whatever, And these bulk e-mail companies may go as far as to offer you the names and addresses on a CD delivered to your door.
It's true, having 1,000,000 subscribers would be next door to heaven to any Internet Marketer. It actually sounds too good to be true. And, believe me, it is too good to be true!
More realisticvally, 10,000 subscribers on a list is probably about as good as it will ever get for even the best of the internet marketers, someone who has been around for a good number of years.
What many 'newbie' marketers, who are just starting a web based business, don't realise, is that these companies harvest the email addresses using special internet robots (known as 'bots'), that search the internet gathering and harvesting anything and everything with ane-mail '@' on a web page.
And that's how they manage to have, and offer for sale, 1,000,000, or whatever the number of email addresses.
Whatever, and wherever these email addresses have come from they probably won't even be single opt-in addresses - never mind double opt-in subscribers.
By the way; a single opt-in is somebody who fills in a form, double opt-in is when that person then receives an email asking them to click on a link to confirm their acceptance as a subscriber.
If they don't click to confirm their subscription, they are assumed to not be a valid opt-in subscriber and they should receive no e-mails.
Picture this...
Each time you see a form on a web page to subscribe to an ezine or free course, you should also see an 'anti-spam statement' clearly explaining that your email address will not be given, lent or passed on in any way shape or form to another party.
If that is the case, and your email address is treated as very private, then how many of the e-mail lists you are offered are going to contain proper opt-in subscribers?
Few if any I would say.
The worst thing, particularly for your reputation, is that if you buy and use any of these so-called email lists (even at a low price), not only will you be wasting your money, you also run the risk of being accused of spamming.
You'll now realise it's no surprise that you often receive spam mails on breast enhancement, Viagra, OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Software, Canadian drugs and other things you probably don't want to see in your email inbox.
And the reason why is because of the 'fake' email lists, Your email address has either been harvested or made up with a random name generator.
So when you are Starting A Web Based Business, keep your hands firmly in your pockets. Don't go out buying things like special offer email lists which actually have little or no real value and which may even get your web address blacklisted and banned for spamming.
Your own special list is what you need, containing only double opt-in subscribers - subscribers who have responded to your web page opt in form.
My advice is to take your time (and it will take time), build your list slowly and keep a tight rein on it and make sure it doesn't fall into the hands of the 'fake' email list and spamming merchants.
