The 2006 World Cup is just around the corner I'm going to be putting some money on a few different teams. I'll be sharing my thoughts on World Cup Betting in this lens!

My Top 5 World Cup Picks

These teams are going to dominate their groups

  • Brazil: Always a solid contender. Brazil is going to flex their muscle in Group F and will easily advance to the finals.
  • Czech Republic: These guys are damn fun to watch. They're explosive and played great in the UEFA tourny. These guys are one to watch.
  • Mexico: In Group D, Mexico is the leading team. Strong offense and a great squad. Look for them to do well in Germany.
  • Argentina: Their defense could arguably be the best in the entire World Cup team roster. They play a good, solid passing game.
  • France: France is going to cruise in Group G with Zidane in his last year. France dominated the 1998 Soccer tourney and they're going to be hungrier than ever to reclaim the title.

World Cup Betting Strategies

Betting on World Cup Soccer is different than most other sports. The teams only meet up every four years which means there is little historical data to run numbers on. The usual sports betting methodology of looking at past matchups for insight into upcoming game does little good.

So then most of the focus is spent analyzing the strength of each team: offense, defense, and goalie.

Unlike NCAA Basketball, there are fewer 'upsets' with World Cup Soccer. However, close matchups are often where all the excitement (and money) happens.
