Writing Newspaper Editorial Letters

Ranked #3,954 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #148,858 overall

In addressing the issues of divorced/single fathers, we must always endeavor to educate the Public. This can be done by writing editorial letters about the problems facing us. One of the major issues is the growing economic problems of those obligated to pay child support while facing layoffs, and unemployment benefits running out. Most fathers are unaware that Child Support Enforcement is obligated to help them obtain a reduction in support. Another is the high rate of denial of access to children, despite court orders.

Guidelines

Following is a list of the "Top 100 Ranked" newspapers in America.

So, sit down right now and express your feelings to the major newspapers in your state, and/or around the country. Even writing the smaller community newspapers can help. Simply run a Google Search for all the newspapers in your state.

The following guidelines are common to most publications:

  • Be as brief as possible (250 words or less);
  • Credentials should be clearly stated, and should always include full name, city/state, and daytime phone number;
  • No e-mail attachments -- send content within the body of an e-mail;
  • Specify "Letter to the Editor" in subject line;
  • Media reserve the right to edit, condense or reject contributions;
  • Letters need to be exclusive to one media outlet, so don't approach a second publication until you've been declined at the first one;
  • Writers are usually only contacted if their submission is being considered for publication;
  • Open letters addressed to third parties are typically not published;
