Xbox 360 Repair

After Microsoft had launched their Xbox 360 and the dust had settled, murmurings around the internet began to surface. People who had purchased their new 360's began having trouble and they didn't know what was going on. All their Xbox's would do is sit there and blink with 3 red lights. This was later dubbed the "3 red rings of death".



It became apparent that there was a serious problem with the consoles that Microsoft had released. It turns out that that the consoles were overheating rapidly and this is what was bringing on the 3 red ring errors which in turn meant an Xbox 360 Repair was needed.



If you were one of the lucky ones, you still had a valid warranty and could send it back to Microsoft for them to fix it although this meant waiting a few weeks until they got around to actually fixing the console.



If you were one of the unlucky ones and your warranty had expired, tough luck. You could send it back to Microsoft at a cost of $140 for a Xbox 360 Repair, great, paying them for repairing their faulty product or you could fix it yourself.



There are quite a few guides on the internet that show you how to do a Xbox 360 Repair but be warned, some are better than others. The better guides offer you both written text and videos while the substandard guides (often found on EBay) only offer you instructions and a few pictures. Take my advice, when you are dealing with complicated circuitry video is the only way to go so if you can, find a guide that has video as well making it a solid Xbox 360 Repair Guide.

These codes may come in handy if you are attempting a Xbox 360 Repair

Key: 0 = All 4 lights will be blinking on and off..

1= 1 section of Red light will be flashing

2= 2 sections of Red lights will be flashing

3= 3 sections of Red lights flashing (otherwise known as the 3 rings of death)

0001 = This is a problem associated with your power brick, double check it to make sure the green LED is working.

0002 = Possible network interface problem or a problem with your power brick.

0003 = In most cases this is a a Power problem .It will either be the GPU/CPU or the PSU . It just means there the console is not getting a proper clean supply of power.

0010 = Sensor inside your cpu as crashed and burned. O.K its died in other words due to overheating, this causes the fan to stay at an idle speed.

0011 = Most likely over heating . Tis is the most common problem you will come across when you try to fix your xbox 360 You will want to make sure all of the screws around the heat sink have been secured properly.

0012 = Aother case of over heating I'm afraid - You will want to apply some thermal paste to the GPU . Additionally you will also want to apply a heat gun to the BGA Ram chip or the CPU.
