The Xhosa Language
The Xhosa language is a member of the Bantu branch of the Benue-Congo sub-group of languages. In turn this is a part of the Niger-Congo family of languages.
The Xhosa people have intermingled with the Hottentots and their language contains some of the Hottentot "click" sounds. The Xh at the beginning of their name represents one of these sounds
Xhosa is spoken by about 8 million people.
Xhosa is spoken principally in the Transkei, Ciskei and East Cape regions of South Africa.
