Young and Free South Carolina!
Ranked #23,777 in Business & Work, #402,899 overall
The 18-25 Age Group of South Carolina
The 18-25 age group is one of the most financially diverse age groups in the U.S. It contains single people, married people, part time and full time workers, students, the unemployed, people with and without children, and they all have varying levels of financial backing from their parents and the government. Without proper guidance in a form that they can all understand and enjoy, people in this age group will continue to make questionable financial decisions that could ultimately lead to bankruptcy, an ever-increasing debt, and for some, even jail time.
Right out of high school, teens are bombarded with mail and advertisements urging them to get credit cards. Many teens fall for the trap and end up in debt cycles early that they cannot reverse. Credit scores will reflect it, and it could be difficult to attain loans in the future for cars or houses. Lack of budgeting and other financial knowledge IS going to cause some problems for people. The current U.S. economy will certainly not help things, since portions of teen paychecks are paying for millions of other citizens' social security and now mortgages!

About Myself and the Contest!
Now for a bit about myself and my current situation. I am a 22 year old marketing graduate from the University of South Carolina Honors College. I have recently applied for a job competition hosted by the South Carolina Federal Credit Union. The job is a spokesperson role, and the winner will be expected to create daily blog entries with financial themes, weekly videos dealing with current events, and monthly informational/educational videos to help the 18-25 age group understand more difficult and complex financial workings. There are 27 applicants at the moment, each of whom brings something unique to the table. However, I feel that I, Josh Sutherland, have the best mix of traits required to reach people in an entertaining way. I have the education, the youthful look, the sense of humor, and a good base understanding of Finance, Accounting, Economics, and of course Marketing and Advertising. I have lots of experience with video and audio editing as well. Hopefully this lens entry is enough of a sample for you to see that I can write in clear, concise language as well.
This job is the one that I've been waiting for, and I hope that you will leave some supportive comments for me on my application page! http://tinyurl.com/votejosh
Feel free to comment on this lens, and tell your friends about it too!
Youtube Examples
Here is a video I made last week as an "extra submission" to the contest. It's a quick comparison of banks and credit unions, with some gags involving a piggy bank to inject humor. =)
My Credentials
A 5-minute rundown about myself. Sort of a video resume.
Thank You Video!
Just a jazzed up "Thanks for watching" video. =) Enjoy! (Best viewed in High Quality!)

This blog belongs to the South Carolina Federal Credit Union's marketing group. Right now it is being used to showcase the 27 video applications and writing samples, while they are hard at work narrowing the group down into a Final Three. The Final Three will be unveiled on March 23rd, and the competition then moves to a new phase in which open voting will occur for 10 days. The winner of the popular vote by April 3rd will become the new spokesperson.

If You Remember Just One Thing...
It should be that the 18-25 age group requires a bit of extra attention when discussing their financial futures and intelligent decision-making. I will be able to communicate with my peers in language that perhaps banking officials and account managers may not be able to, through the use of humor, music, and analogies that make sense. - Congratulations and Welcome to Squidoo. I hope & believe you have chosen and excellent way to "lobby" your skills and ambition to win the competetion and get the job. Certainly Squidoo is an outstanding forum and you should score some points being savvy enough in social networking to come here and I assume you're twittering, facebooking, etc. You'll have to tell us if you made the final 3 and then we'll see if we can muster some support for your voting asap. 5*s, fanned and favorite.
