Your Dog's Health
Dogs are man's best friend! Whether you are young or old, dogs bring great joy and make wonderful companions. Do you remember your first puppy and all the fun that he or she brought into your life? The way your dog would wagged its' tail or ran so fast to get to you that it would wipe out and make everyone laugh. Remember when it was an adult dog and was always there for you, whether you were happy or sad?
To ensure that your dog lives a long life it is important to monitor your dog's health. There are many ways to keep your dog healthy. Below is a list of some of the most important.
Health Checklist is the key to Your Dogs Health!
- Brush your dog's teeth as it one of the best ways
to keep your dog healthy - Dogs are just as susceptible to plaque, tarter, and bad
breath as humans are. Ignoring this can lead to tooth loss,
decreased appetite, and sickness. - Feed your dog a proper diet with the correct nutritional
ingredients - Obese dogs are just like obese humans. They
have shorter life spans than non-obese dogs. Certain human
foods are toxic to dogs. Never feed your dog grapes, raisins,
or chocolate and ensure that you limit onions and garlic to a very
small amount. - Exercise your dog
- Exercise helps maintain proper body weight, strengthens
joints and muscles and provides mental stimulation for your dog. - Adequately hydrate your dog
- Dogs suffer from dehydration and heat exhaustion the same
as humans, so always ensure your dog has ample water. - Ensure your dog's safety
- Pick appropriate toys for the size of your dog and keep
your dog on a leash or in a gated yard. - Check your dog for external parasites regularly
- Fleas and ticks can cause serious health problems.
- Groom or have your dog groomed regularly
- 40% of all veterinary visits are related to skin
problems. It is also a good way to rid your dog of parasites. - Vaccinate your dog per your veterinarian's advice
- Missing certain immunizations may cause you dog to become
seriously ill and perhaps even die.
Unfortunately dogs can't tell us when there is something wrong with them and it is up to the responsible pet lover to watch for signs of trouble and protect your dog's health. These are just some of the easiest and best ways to keep your dog healthy and in your life for a very long time.
