This is in honor of a dear friend fighting her enemy cancer. She is the Cancer Warrior.
America's Health Is in Crisis:
A great part of each and every dollar is spent on health care
Despite spending more money than any other country, America ranked 37th a few years ago in overall health.
One out of every three Americans will get cancer
One out of every 2 Americans has an autoimmune disease and this number is increasing at an alarming rate
Two out of three Americans are overweight with 1 out of 5 classified as clinically obese
Three out of 4 Americans have a degenerative disease
What is the Answer? Learn how our diet and lifestyle has a large impact on our immune system. We must learn the difference between biological sugar and table sugar or high glycemic foods. (Discussed below) We need to improve the Warrior in us all, learn about whole food nutrition to rev up our own wonderful healthy immune system.

We all Want to be Vital - Healthy - Alive and Well
What an incentive to Build a Warrior Immune Defense System

We all want to be vital, healthy alive and well.
Just think--- If you are sick your focus is on getting well, you're not able to think of much else. But, if you are well and healthy-the sky is the limit! You can do anything and have a fabulous happy contented life with those you love.
Do we need a healthy warrior like immune system?
Think about this: A strong healthy immune system is more powerful than any prescription drug on the planet. It is our protection no matter what type of flu virus, bacteria or cancer cells that we come in contact with.
Now, I hate to tell you this, but as a population our immune function has been decreasing each and every year for years now. That's not going to keep us healthy vital and living long.
Wikipedia tells us that our healthy immune system needs to distinguish viruses and parasitic worms from our own healthy cells-which means it needs to be good at cell to cell communication.
So, what do we do? Whether you are healthy now and just want to maintain your vital health, or if your body is compromised by H1N1, a bacterial sickness or you need your warrior soldiers to fight and defeat cancer. There are things you can do to support or build up a great army of defense-your own wonderful immune system.
This discussion is not about your strategic offense system designed by you and your health care practitioner. This is about your nutrition and lifestyle as a compliment to build up your own defense-your immune system. At times we need both, a great offense as well as a healthy strong warrior immune defense system.

I am an R.N. Everyone, man and woman should read this excellent book that is truthful and an eyeopening experience. I pushed chemo for 22 years! I wish I had had this knowledge to share with my patients.
5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable information for those diagnosed with cancer!,
As a professional environmental biologist who has had health as an avocation for over 40 years and been critically reading about cancer and cancer treatments, both standard and alternative, for over 20 years, I highly praise Suzanne Somers for having the courage to compile the interviews in "Knockout" with physicians who have had successes in treating cancer patients using alternative methods..............................................................
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction to Treatment Options
Wow this is eye-opening. Suzanne is a little out there when comes to all natural treatments but that's not what this book is all about. The bulk of the book is interviews with oncologists. It provides an excellent introduction to options for cancer patients. It also provides references for further research. I recommend this book to anyone dealing with cancer at any level. There truly are many effective things that you can do to improve a patients prospects for good health and curing cancer and this is a start at pointing you in those directions. I have watched the hope for the future be pulled out of cancer patients by standard treatments. This book puts the hope back. It shows you that you have the power to make life changing decisions for the better. READ IT.
I feel it is a Great Start.

“What's the Most Important Nutrient?
It's the One that's Missing.”
What's the Answer to Owning a Healthy Warrior Defense System
Get to work by implementing the following:

1. We must have a healthy diet, with plenty of raw fresh foods. Make sure you obtain the very best. They need to be grown without chemicals, organic if possible, and picked at the very peak of perfection, or ripeness. You and your family deserve the very best food. And don't waste money on fake foods. Fake and highly processed foods do not help build you a warrior like great immune system.
Yes, fresh produce is very important, but, make sure your diet is low glycemic. Otherwise you will be dumping large amounts of sugar in the body. That is dangerous if you wish to keep your immune system healthy and working smart.
Give your immune system the very best tools possible. Soldiers don't need old dry sticks to fight a good fight; they need the best defense possible.
2. Make sure you get plenty of the essentials as part of your whole food nutrition. Everything I researched said to be sure to include these essential elements:
Vitamin C rich foods. Vitamin E foods, Garlic-which is a great natural antibiotic, Zink rich foods, Bioflavonoid from fruits and vegetables. Selenium rich foods like chicken, tuna, eggs, sunflower seeds. Carotene rich foods like carrots and yams.
And don't forget your Omega 3 fatty acids, from nuts, salmon tuna, mackerel and flaxseed oil.
We have always studied about Vitamin D as essential for building strong bones, but, the latest research shows it is very important to each and every cell including have a healthy immune system-yes our warrior soldiers that defend us. The amounts need to be increased from what we used to think, especially if we don't get enough sun.
And yes I do use supplements, but, supplements are to supplement real foods---not replace them. And when you supplement, make sure they are whole food nutrition supplements.
We have studied about Vitamins, Minerals, Protein or Amino Acids, Essential Fatty Acids and Carbohydrates (or Sugars) for a while now. Until recently we thought sugars or carbohydrates were used as fuel only, but now it is known that a special group of sugars called glyconutrients is a key ingredient in proper cellular function.
Scientific research has shown that every cell in the body communicates by utilizing a glycoprotein structure on the cells. If a person is missing even one of these vital structures (biological sugars or monosaccharides) the cells cannot communicate properly.
Who Studies and Recommends Glyconutrients

Noted researcher John Axford, BSc, MD, FRCP President of the the Section of Clinical Immunology and Allergy of the Royal Society of Medicine,
The Prestigious Jenner Glycobiology & Medicine Symposium,
Dr. John Rollins, a former award-winning US Patent and Trademark Office official,
The National Institues of Health recently awarded a 5 year, $34 million grant to the top research centers in the United States and in Europe to understand how cells and the immune system use these "sugars" and their implications in disease,
M.D. News /spring 2002,
The Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR) is consulted by 99% of all doctors and healthcare professionals before recommending solutions to their patients. Glyconutrients are listed in the PDR for compromised immune systems.
(no disease occurs unless your immune system is compromised.)
Harper's Biochemistry, a medical textbook used to educate healthcare professionals, has included glyconutrients and and their role in health and healing since 1996.
Dr. H. Reg McDaniel, used glyconutrients in his many studies at the Fisher Instutute for Medical Research, Dr. McDaniel suggests that stem cell production is super charged when glyconutrients are introduced into the body. In fact, tests show that within a week of consuming glyconutrients, many new stem cells can be found. He states that is why glyconutrients are vitally important for restoring the body back to a healthy state.
And the Illustrious Dr. Ben Carson recently named one of the top 20 doctors. Dr. Ben Carson said that glyconutrients should become a complementary component of our heath care system. "The science made sense to me. God gave us (in plants)what we need to remain healthy," he said. "In today's world our food chain is depleted of nutrients and our enviroment has helped destroy what God gave us."--Dallas Weekly
Of course his comments may be colored by the benefits he received when battling his own very aggressive cancer. Since that time he says his family, staff and patients are now using glyconutrients.
I also study and recommend glyconutrients, but, I am just a Certified Diet Wellness Coach. I have been making
sure that my parents have been on them since I discovered them about 4 years ago. I also recommend them to
everyone I care about, including my kids and those I work with in my classes and one-on-one.

This section is talking about glyconutrients-not table sugar or processed foods which creates high glycemic foods. They tear the immune system down, and do not feel the organs, the tissues, the bones or any of the cells of the body. Sugar and high glycemic foods tear down and create ill health and premature death. I want you to know the difference in what builds you up and what tears you down.

Sugars That Heal: The New Healing Science of Glyconutrients
From Amazon
We get too much of some things (like saturated fats, white flour, and simple sugars) and not enough of other things (like essential fatty acids, vegetables, fruits, and water).
Sugars That Heal describes the evidence that some people are having their health undermined by consuming too few of certain essential sugars (such as mannose, xylose, fucose, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylgalactosamine, and N-acetylneuraminic acid.
These sugars have many important functions in the body, several of which relate to the proper functioning of the immune system and the nervous sytem.
Reminder: I want you to note that Sugars that Heal are biological sugars, they do not act to raise your blood sugar and upset the balance of the body. This is directly opposite to high glycemic foods and table sugar or fructose or high fructose corn syrup. Just know that there is a big difference and get the right sugars for your body, and sidestep the avalanche of other sugars.
Improper Cell to Cell Communication leads to one of two problems.
What's the Answer

1. Autoimmune Disease such as MS, Asthma, Diabetes, AIDS, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, etc. One out of every 2 Americans has an autoimmune disease and this number is increasing at an alarming rate. Do you think we are getting enough glyconutriets?
OR
2. Suppressed Immune Function such as Deadly Viruses, Cancer and Bacterial Infections. I personally have several friends fighting cancer now-are you? One out of every 3 Americans will get cancer that this present rate.
What is the Answer:
Since our modern diet is so deficient in these nutrients we need to supplement them. There is a patented supplement from foods collected around the world. This supplement is listed in the doctor's non-prescription PDR as an Immune Support. Be sure to add it to the diet to improve your immune system.

EXERCISE - WATER - SLEEP - A HEALTHY INTESTINAL TRACT
For the Rest of the Story....

3. Exercise is known to strengthen the body and the immune system. Data came from the Presidents Council on Fitness and Sports as well as other studies. Note the findings of Research Digest, women who engaged in 35-45 minutes of brisk walking, five days a week, for 12-15 weeks, they experienced a reduced number of sick days compared to the control (sedentary) group. So, don't forget your exercise.
Yes, do choose something you enjoy, and what you are capable of with your present condition. You won't continue to do it otherwise.
4. Be well hydrated. Pure clean water is important for many functions in the body. No, I'm not talking about coffee, cokes, diet or sugary drinks. Our bodies do not take care of all of it's transactions of keeping us healthy without proper amounts of pure water. Just a slight deficiency in water, and we are not able to even think properly. Also, we must be able to flush toxins out of our system, (that is facilitated with having the proper amount of antioxidants), we need plenty of good water to get this important job done.
5. Keep a good schedule, getting the proper amount of sleep. Deep sleep stimulates and energizes the immune system, while sleep deprivation has the opposite effect. Adults generally need from 7 to 8 hours of sleep, but, you could need more or less. Just make sure you are not sleep deprived.
Be sure to avoid stimulants, decongestants, tobacco and alcohol. Alcohol doesn't keep you from falling asleep, but does interfere with REM sleep which does restore and repair the body.
6. The experts tell us that 70-80% of the Immune System is in your intestinal tract. So, we must be sure to keep this very important system healthy and strong also.
How do we do that?
Make sure you are putting the right bacteria into your intestinal tract by natural, organic yogurts, kefir, and/or a good quality probiotic. I use a probiotic daily, and a lozenger to boost my immune system in my intestinal tract.
Also any time you use antibiotics, you will need to re- balance the bacteria in your intestinal tract, as the antibiotic kills both the good as well as the bad bacteria. It is indiscriminate, so replace the good bacteria with a broad spectrum probiotic every night at bedtime. (On an empty stomach)
Many of these things are just a reminder, but please do be reminded and strengthen that very important immune system of yours for a long healthy happy life.
Remember, you and your love ones are worth the time and effort.

The Healing Power of 8 Sugars: An Amazing Breakthrough in Nutrition, Sciences and Medicine
Look for it at Amazon
"The Healing Power of 8 Sugars" covers many subjects ranging from the use of glyconutrients during pregnancy, to child development issues to sports medicine, inflammation and disease cases.
The science of glyconutrients is very technical, yet these doctors do a remarkable job of bringing the science down to a lay level without neglecting the concerns and issues that will appeal to the medical and scientific audience as well.
According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Review, February 2003, "If you don't have glycosylation, you don't have life."
Significantly, this book unlocks the mysteries of glycosylation (the adding of a polysaccharide (chain of sugars) to a polypeptide (chain of amino acids) in order to make a glycoprotein) and how glyconutrients are vital for this process.
The Missing Nutrients by Stephen Nugent PhD

The most important supplements are glyconutrients since most are lacking in American diets.. Doctor Nugent discusses glyconutrients in great detail and makes a strong case for the addition of glyconutrient supplements to everyone's diet.
I recommend THE MISSING NUTRIENTS to anyone seeking a basic introduction to the topic of glyconutrients.

Sugar's Sweet Tooth by Patrick Quillin, PHD, RD, CNS
From the director of nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla.
We must learn the difference in Sugar. Table sugar, high fructose Corn Syrup, and most sweet sugar is dangerous, unhealthy and even feeds cancer.
Biological sugar is different, and is helpful. Dr. Reg McDaniel studied the effects of these Healing Sugars, called Glyco-Nutrients. Learn how they are helping strengthen and smarten immune systems. Check this out for yourself.
Note the following by Dr. Patrick Quillin:
New Meds That Heal
by Patrick Quillin, PHD, RD, CNS
During the last 10 years I have worked with more than 500 cancer patients as director of nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla. It puzzles me why the simple concept "sugar feeds cancer" can be so dramatically overlooked as part of a comprehensive cancer treatment plan.
Of the 4 million cancer patients being treated in America today, hardly any are offered any scientifically guided nutrition therapy beyond being told to "just eat good foods." Most patients I work with arrive with a complete lack of nutritional advice. I believe many cancer patients would have a major improvement in their outcome if they controlled the supply of cancer's preferred fuel, glucose. By slowing the cancer's growth, patients allow their immune systems and medical debulking therapies-- chemotherapy, radiation and surgery to reduce the bulk of the tumor mass--to catch up to the disease. Controlling one's blood-glucose levels through diet, supplements, exercise, meditation and prescription drugs when necessary can be one of the most crucial components to a cancer recovery program. The sound bite--sugar feeds cancer--is simple. The explanation is a little more complex.
The 1931 Nobel laureate in medicine, German Otto Warburg, Ph.D., first discovered that cancer cells have a fundamentally different energy metabolism compared to healthy cells. The crux of his Nobel thesis was that malignant tumors frequently exhibit an increase in anaerobic glycolysis--a process whereby glucose is used as a fuel by cancer cells with lactic acid as an anaerobic byproduct--compared to normal tissues.1 The large amount of lactic acid produced by this fermentation of glucose from cancer cells is then transported to the liver. This conversion of glucose to lactate generates a lower , more acidic pH in cancerous tissues as well as overall physical fatigue from lactic acid buildup.2,3 Thus, larger tumors tend to exhibit a more acidic pH.4
This inefficient pathway for energy metabolism yields only 2 moles of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) energy per mole of glucose, compared to 38 moles of ATP in the complete aerobic oxidation of glucose. By extracting only about 5 percent (2 vs. 38 moles of ATP) of the available energy in the food supply and the body's calorie stores, the cancer is "wasting" energy, and the patient becomes tired and undernourished. This vicious cycle increases body wasting.5 It is one reason why 40 percent of cancer patients die from malnutrition, or cachexia.6
Hence, cancer therapies should encompass regulating blood-glucose levels via diet, supplements, non- oral solutions for cachectic patients who lose their appetite~ medication, exercise, gradual weight loss and stress reduction. Professional guidance and patient self-discipline are crucial at this point in the cancer process. The quest is not to eliminate sugars or carbohydrates from the diet but rather to control blood glucose within a narrow range to help starve the cancer and bolster immune function.
The glycemic index is a measure of how a given food affects blood-glucose levels, with each food assigned a numbered rating. The lower the rating, the slower the digestion and absorption process, which provides a healthier, more gradual infusion of sugars into the bloodstream. Conversely, a high rating means blood-glucose levels are increased quickly, which stimulates the pancreas to secrete Insulin to drop blood-sugar levels. This rapid fluctuation of blood-sugar levels is unhealthy because of the stress it places on the body (see glycemic index chart, p. 166).
Sugar In the Body and Diet
Sugar is a generic term used to identify simple carbohydrates, which includes monosaccharides such as fructose, glucose and galactose; and disaccharides such as maltose and sucrose (white table ?ugar). Think of these sugars as different-shaped bricks in a wall. When fructose is the primary monosaccharide brick in the wall, the glycemic index registers as healthier, since this simple sugar is slowly absorbed in the gut, then converted to glucose in the liver. This makes for "time-release foods," which offer a more gradual rise and fall in blood-glucose levels. If glucose is the primary monosaccharide brick in the wall, the glycemic index will be higher and less healthy for the individual.
As the brick wall is torn apart in digestion, the glucose is pumped across the intestinal wall directly into '\ the bloodstream, rapidly raising blood-glucose levels. In other words, there is a "window of efficacy" for glucose in the blood: levels too low make one feel lethargic and can create clinical hypoglycemia; levels too high start creating the rippling effect of diabetic health problems.
The 1997 American Diabetes Association blood-glucose standards consider 126 mg glucose/dl blood or greater to be diabetic; 111125 mg/dl is impaired glucose tolerance and less than 110 mg/dl is considered normal. Meanwhile, the Paleolithic diet of our ancestors, which consisted of lean meats, vegetables and small amounts of whole grains, nuts, seeds and fruits, is estimated to have generated blood glucose levels between 60 and 90 mg/dl.7 Obviously, today's high-sugar diets are having unhealthy effects as far as blood-sugar is concerned. Excess blood glucose may initiate yeast overgrowth, blood vessel deterioration, heart disease and other health conditions.8
Understanding and using the glycemic index is an important aspect of diet modification for cancer patients. However, there is also evidence that sugars may feed cancer more efficiently than starches (comprised of long chains of simple sugars), making the Index slightly misleading. A study of rats fed diets with equal calories from sugars and starches, for example, found the animals on the high-sugar diet developed more cases of breast cancer.9 The glycemic index is a useful tool in guiding the cancer patient toward a healthier diet, but it is not infallible. By using the glycemic index alone, one could be led to thinking a cup of white sugar is healthier than a baked potato. This is because the glycemic index rating of a sugary food may be lower than that of a starchy food. To be safe, I recommend less fruit, more vegetables, and little to no refined sugars in the diet of cancer patients.-from by Patrick Quillin, PHD, RD, CNS

- Immune System Diseases
http://immunesystemdiseases.org/
Once in a while people get sick because of too much stress or because of working too much. Sometimes weather changes can cause a person's immune system to weaken making the person more susceptible to diseases. The usual diseases include cough and colds and the occasional fever but wouldn't it be hard if a person would get hit by his very own immune system? Unfortunately, this happens to people sometimes. There are even times when a person gets attacked by his immune system every single day as long as there are triggers, the immune system will react. It is unfortunate that for some people, getting immune system diseases is inevitable.
