Europe's many seaports make the advantages of a European cruise obvious. With no need to park or negotiate airports it is the best way to go sightseeing in Europe's prominent seaside cities. Simple, a nice day trip on shore and then back to the dock for more cruise adventure.Having made the smart plan to take a cruise, also make a good to plan in advance what you want to see and do.
In this way you will make the most enjoyable use of your time. Most cruise lines are willing to guide you, offer tours, or you can do your own research for your exploring. Keep in mind that ship is generally docked for 10 hours in each port of call, so have your itinerary and maps of any cities you may be traveling to like Copenhagen, Bergen, Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm.
Be sure while in Bergen to enjoy the local cuisine. You will find Bergen people more than happy to point you in the direction of the many historical and natural sights you will find there.
In Helsinki go the museums, experience Helsinki's historic architecture, and if it is a warm day, top it of with a visit to one of the beaches along the Baltic Sea.
Oslo is also a great place to take in the sights, and so much is just a short walk from the pier. Forget about renting a car there, you wont need one while enjoying a guided nature hike or try a boat tour if you don't feel like walking. See ancient castles the Medieval Quarter of "old" Oslo or the famous ski tower. After working up a good appetite you will have no problem satisfying you tongues fancy, be it a small cafe or grand and elegant dining experience.
There are other differences when taking a cruise as opposed to other means of travel. For example the opportunity to converse with the diverse passengers and crew aboard ship. True it's not the same as full time mingle with locals but you will certainly travel in comfort and style while traveling to ports of call. There you will have ample opportunity to experience European hospitality. Try swimming on a plane.
Once you have decided upon a cruise to Europe, remember that one cruise will only scratch surface of the possibilities that will be afford to you, so be warned if this is your first cruise it is not likely to be your last. While on your first cruise you might as well take note of things you may of missed or the things you want to do again on your next adventure.
