Are you ready for a zappa musical wikipedia ?
This text was wright in memory of one of most amazing producers in the music history.
Any reference to the Artist and the band is purely for information and ,this don't compromise the musicians in any way.
In this text is no clicking links for money, downloads or any other activity that can compromise the business of the (FZFT) -Frank Zappa Family Trust- . all the comments are my own view of facts and history. Some of the information read in this text like, album dates and lyrics are taken from other websites dedicated to the artists and don't present any particular infringement of the law.
Why do I make a disclaim of this text ?
Some days ago I was looking for some new Frank Zappa Images in the web and I get into (Ugly Kid Radio) web site. This web site is a Radio dedicated to Frank Zappa music and all the fans. My surprise was when'd I notice this radio is no long working and all the images of FZ did disappear. Reading forward, I Notice a long tread about the FZFT.
So, what happen is: Miss Gail Zappa and his sun Dweasel have start a campaign in the web to stop all the web sites ,blogs and fan clubs of FZ to display , photos , movies, music, or any other activity that can include FZ name. FZ and his music is a register Trade mark and miss Gail decide to start a battle against the world !! Can you belive this ?
Ok, she stop the radio, stop the web site, stop the fan clubs, stop the MOTHERS OF INVENTION (GrandMothers) to play any Track made by Zappa (including the tracks they did together, Stop any other musician that have been play with Zappa to play his Tracks ... including... she order a demolition of a statue of Frank Zappa that some fans did in Lithuania !
So, at this present moment, I can be subject to a court participation from miss Gail lawyers just because I am writhing the name of his husband... I mean Franko Zapion.
No more tribute bands or any related Zappa comments !
Fine ! What she try to do ?
She try to get a way for people to forget FZ ? Nop ! Dweasel is the one and only with the right to Play Zappa music and miss Gail are taking care of his future. Well dawn. She are just destroy 40 years of work made by Zappa, making fans going mad and angry, people stop to buy Zappa Music and for more people who go to (Zappa Play Zappa Tour) that Dweasel is making at the moment... I will not put my foots in there and I will not give more money for that Family.
If you really what to have a laugh and see how sad this story goes visit ugly Kid Radio and read the comments of the hungry fans.
Now, I have to repeat: This is only my opinion and how far I know, every human in this planet have the right to express himself and speak they're own ideas. FREE EXPRESSION MAKE PART OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS !
So, please miss Gail, don't process me for promoting the brilliant work of Frank Zappa.

Lets talk about the Man
Now I go back to the Article I was start to wright some time ago before I have read all this scary battle against the world !If you like Frank Zappa Music For sure you will not read nothing new about F.Zappa but you will read my personal opinion about some of the best Zappa records .
Yes, I will need a collection of lenses to make that but I go to restrict the review to the official albums I found more relevant for Zappa career.
Harry ,are you kidding !?
No, I am not kidding...
I didn't collect FZ Records Just because I like, I collected because wish album is different , its always some thing new and funny in all of them.
I am a Frank Zappa collector for many years and Zappa is one of the Artists ,I can Talk about for a day. (That is just because I don't like to annoy people)
Frank Zappa big music Idol was Edgar Varence. From this connection Zappa found the love for Orchestral music and he did start to work in the idea early, showing some works like, Lumpy Gravy, 200 Motels, grandwazoo, orchestral favorites and others.
200 Motels was a movie release from the 70s, where zappa get the London Philharmonic Orchestra together and give hem the most strange pieces of music this musicians never see or played before.
Not only, Zappa did the same with brilliant musicians like Ian Underwood Or George duck, where Zappa teach hem a completely different way to play music from the one they been teach in University where they come with Music Graduation diploma.
(please don't smoke you diploma!)
Zappa was a musical and Ideological Anarchist capable to laugh of Himself and others.
Musically connected and cooperating with some artist names like Captain beefheart, Jan Luck Ponty, John Lenon, Sting and others, Zappa always get the projects on his own way.
Zappa and beefheart are school friends and they did record some Albums together but the problem is that, 2 Heroes in the same band never get nowhere, so, after try some cooperation with beefheart things settle as,
Frank Zappa and Mothers of Invention and
Captain beefheart and His Magic Band.
If this smells like a replica ... is not !
But... "Trout Mask Replica" (beefheart album with collaboration of Zappa, it was !)
Just to don't make bad neighbors, beefheart record 2 albums in collaboration with Zappa:
"Hot Rats" and "Bongo Fury" (a Part from bootlegs and early recordings in studio Z)
Both brilliant musicians but different music Styles !
beefheart Play simply music with the *Don't care style*
while Zappa was making the perfection and no regression Music style in the most Humor way.
Other of the participations in recording studio and live performance was Jean Luck Ponty. This connection just get wrong with ponty when'd Zappa produce and record the tracks for "King Kong" album and later Zappa found this record come out as "Jan Luck Ponty Plays Music Of Frank Zappa", album Named "King Kong"
Zappa did all the music production and arrangements for this album and didn't like to see his work come out as "jean luc ponty Plays Zappa" here where it starts the battle with Artist and the record label .
(This sucks, but is not just this, warnerbros sucks too !!)
When'd a Man know what he wants things can go complicated for the ones who think they can do what they like.
The case start with "warnerbros" and Vervet" on "Freak Out" album. (First concept disc in market)
Voices in album was understandable some parts are cut. All this was extended to the second album of the Mothers"Absolutely free"
Some interception lyrics was kicking ideology and ways of life and Zappa start to have problems with Major record labels because the bad mastering work and music transformation that happen, wild Zappa was not around at the studio, showing the final work to the Artist at the time the album was out in the market.
All this was making Zappa furious ,so he decide to move to other record labels and later create his own record label and make the things on his own way.
"The Muffin Research Kitchen"
Is 3 kind of answers I listen people say, when'd I ask:
Do you know Frank Zappa Music ?
Answer:
1- I hate it !
2- I love it
3- Yes, I listen one time. FF Crazy sounds!
Zappa, you love , you hate or you just don't know !
Zappa was a music genius.
Some one capable to make things with music ,that no one did.
It was a satiric Lyrical but when'd he "shut up and play guitar"
its another Story.
I personally never like to listen zappa play guitar. Too much technic ,that didn't go well with most part of his works but I respect point of view and I admit, he was a good guitar players (but not my style).
Category - Discography
Organizing the music collection
Looking for the all collection I have on my side, I would like to put Frank Zappa music in the right place, for the knowledge listeners and for the Frank Zappa unknown listeners.
Try to have all Zappa records in categories is not a easy job because some albums can have a mixture of tracks / styles.
So I will generalize...
(I will try don't repeat albums in categories)
Rock, but not all.
The Rock Age
* ROCKWe can call almost all the records as Rock.Zappa roots come from Blues/Jazzy and Orchestra but the first big steps was with Mothers of Invention.
1- Freak Out! (2LP, Verve/MGM V/V6-5005-2, June 27, 1966)
1966 USA
Freak Out was the first concept album in the music market.
At the time when'd everything is wonderful on people have the sense of power Zappa come out with some strange lyrics for the time:
(Freak out Lyrics)
Mister America
Walk on by
Your schools that do not teach
Mister America
Walk on by
The minds that won't be reached
Mister America
Try to hide
The emptiness that's you inside.
Listen this in 1966 was a kind of a kick for some people.
The main youth music power at that moment was beach boys or Beatles singing love ,love me do, you know I love you !
kicking the mentality of the young consume generation can be a clever way but to refresh the mood we can find tracks like
"Wowie Zowie"
(Wowie Zowie Lyrics)
Wowie Zowie
Your love's a treat
Wowie Zowie
You can't be beat
Wowie Zowie, baby
You're so neat
I don't even care
If you shave your legs
To don't leave the things in insurable place, Zappa use one all side of the double album to Make a Track call "Sussy Creamchees"
wish is a psychedelic madness in all the rights !
You probably wander why I am here... So Am I, and so am I !
2- Absolutely Free (LP, Verve V/V6-5013, June 26, 1967)
This album from 67 start like this...
Fella Americans . . .
DOOT, DOOT, DOOT . . . DOOT . . .
He's been sick.
DOO-OO-OOT . . . DOOT! DOOT!
(Teet-Teet . . . Teet-Teet . . . Teet-Teet . . . Teet-Teet-Teet)
And I think his wife is gonna bring him some chicken soup.
DOOT, DOOT (Teet-Teet)
Plastic People.
More on this album deserving a comment.
3- We're Only In It For The Money March 1968
By the Artist point of view in 68 (flower power boom) the Woodstock was just the youth first experience of freedom out of the family control freaks of the meddle class.
For this reason Zappa refuse to play in Woodstock.
Many controversy come from this time about Zappa.
Who are this freaks that say"Flower power sucks !" ???
This is the time of the Hippy's, piece, Love, harmony, Levitation, Spirituality... Bullocks !
What is this thing of Freaks about !!??
They are not what everyone is "you are what you is"
They are the reality check of the Dream "society pages" and better,
they have a laugh of all of that.
For that same reason Zappa and Mother are hated or Loved.
But I don't want run for politics (Even know that Zappa run to be president of Nicaragua one day)
We're Only In It For The Money cover is the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" from the Beatles album but this time with mothers dress like house keepers and in the floor you can read design by vegetables "We're Only In It For The Money"
I have to say, this is one of my favorite Zappa Records.
I will name some tracks...
*What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body?
*Absolutely Free
*Let's Make The Water Turn Black
*Take Your Clothes Off When You Dance
*Harry, You're A Beast
4- Chunga's Revenge (LP, Bizarre/Reprise MS 2030, October 23, 1970)
Pre- 200 Motels.
The love for Orchestra never have been a secret in Zappa musicology but this one was a pre-made ... if I can call the intro for the movie 200 Motels.
After that, I point some delicious tracks:
*tell me you love me" .
5- Fillmore East -- June 1971 (LP, Bizarre/Reprise MS 2042, August 2, 1971)
From the same batch of Artists and Tracks (if I can call the best Mothers of Invention Formation) The theatrical humor and hilarious sketch are present and announce the Movie. At this time Zappa have the collaboration of "Flo and Eddy" a Duo that made a big difference in the sound of Mothers and in all the work Zappa was planing to do.
Note for the story of
*The Mud Shark
and
*Do You Like My New Car?
*Peaches En Regalia
6- Just Another Band From L.A. (LP, Bizarre/Reprise MS 2075, March 26, 1972)
And another one under the same line. Flo and Eddy still active and the comedy can go on and on and on and on and on and ooon, with this duo making what Zappa was looking for so long , a good pair of Animation voices.
Band on his best and another live album from 72.
Here "Billy the mountain" come in action. One side album with a on stage story about a Mountain and his small wooden wife.
(Billy the Mountain start Lyrics)
BILLY was a mountain
ETHELL was a tree
Growing off of his shoulder.
The maxim satiric Musical comedy can be found in:
* Magdalena
and a always Hilarious to listen:
*Call Any Vegetable
(Call Any Vegetable Lyrics)
Call and they'll come to you
Covered with dew
Vegetables dream
Of responding to you
Standing there
Shiny & proud by your side
Holding your hand
While the neighbors decide
Why is a vegetable
Something to hide?
Over-Nite Sensation / Apostrophe / One Size Fits All
3 albums Here the things start to change and music start to take a shape of "Normal" Rock.
7- Over-Nite Sensation (LP, DiscReet MS 2149, September 7, 1973)
Here I think is when'd Zappa just decide to stop to be the funny Hilarious and go into the serious mood.
Serious rock album and if not the best, is one of the best in Zappa Career.
Tracks are in my preference:
*Durty Love
*Dinah Moe Hum
*Montana
*I'm The Slime
8- Apostrophe (') (LP, DiscReet DS 2175, March 22, 1974)
In my favorites shelf as they should be in a box set.

My First album of Zappa ! I been grow listen Pink Floyd ,Gentle Giant,Emerson Lake and Palmer, la la la ,la la la
but one day ,on my 15 years old, I visit a fried house .
In that day, I found this strange album in the music collection of his dad "Zappa Mothers Roxy & Elsewhere".
As any teenager, what call my attention was the fact that in this album cover, was a women on his nee getting her hands somewhere in the guitar player trousers !!
I found that surreal and I ask my friends dad if I cud take the album to listen at home.
After I listen this record ,I really understand the meaning of music.
I recommend AND IF IS NEED IN BIG LETTERS:
listen on
*Echidna's Arf (Of You)
I didn't think was possible Humans to do some amazing music live
on stage with no mistakes or wrong sound. That is amazing !
In this album are other brilliant tracks but I will comment just that one for now.
If you know music or if you are a musician ... listen that !
11- Bongo Fury (LP, DiscReet DS 2234, October 2, 1975)
Zappa VS beefheart.
They really try hard but looks like mix friendship with Business didn't make much of a good deal for both.
I recommend from this album:
*Carolina hard-core ecstasy
(Carolina hard-core ecstasy Lyrics)
She put a Doobie Brothers tape on
(lalalalalaa la)
I had a Roger Daltrey cape on
(a Roger Daltrey cape on)
There was a bed I dumped her shape on
Can't remember what became of me
Carolina hard-core ecstasy.
Or... the Torment story of:
*The muffin Man"
(The muffin Man Lyrics)
SOME PEOPLE LIKE CUPCAKES EXCLUSIVELY, WHILE MYSELF, I SAY
THERE IS NAUGHT NOR OUGHT THERE BE NOTHING SO EXALTED ON THE FACE OF GOD'S GREY
EARTH AS THAT PRINCE OF FOODS... THE MUFFIN!"
Girl you thought he was a man
But he was a muffin
He hung around till you found
That he didn't know nuthin'
(Talking about Muffin Man, Jimmy Carl Black - ex Mothers- Have a band name _Muffin Man_ . I see hem live and they play Zappa covers. I recommend)
12- Zoot Allures (LP, Warner Bros. BS 2970, October 29, 1976)

At this time Zappa divorced from the mothers and get a band of new musicians.
All the musicians from this band later start a band name
(missing person)
*The torture never stop
*Ms Pinky
*Zoot Allures
*Find her finer

*ORCHESTRALDiversification, its the secret word for this list !
Was a time when'd Zappa played with rock Jazzy musicians and did the most amazing music. Later, Zappa go into Orchestral at serious scale. Sooo... Diversification, is the secret Word for the albums choose in this list. Some are my favorite orchestral, some don't .
1-The Grand Wazoo (LP, Bizarre/Reprise MS 2093, November 27, 1972)
Grand wazoo was a orchestra VS band made for a tour.

Much more rarities are avaiable and as you can see, on ebay things can go pretty mad with prices of Zappa Rare vinyl or limited cd editions.

Zappa Music videos
I still waiting
Some good videos have show the character of the genius but the most wait of all is "Roxy & Elsewhere" Video.
Are they waiting for a couple of years more ?
Mean time, I recommend "A Token of his Extreme" video "Babby snakes" Video and The "Halloween" video.
NOTE, I am just talking here about the videos and Albums I have (but not all)

Zappa Music on Amazon
Favorites
Do you have it ?
*FAVORITESZappa was one of the most pirated music artists in the market. more then Beatles, Led Zeppelin or any other.
Favorites... Again !
From all the albums ,ones are more then others but I like to resume the collection to the last moment, for this reason I will say :
"The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life"
This is a double live of Zappa and as the title say, its true.
Hilarious comedy and musically perfect.
(If I can call the resume of zappa carrier!?)
Why ?
The second Favorite is:
"Make A Jazz Noise Here"
Again ,this is a double cd live from almost the same time of the "The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life".
Make A Jazz Noise Here is a jazz orchestral live and is where the serious part of the stories was released.
To me, this are the 2 crystal pearls in any Rock collection.
and more...
"Zappa/ Mothers Roxy elsewhere"
This is a double live album with the best music players from Mothers of Invention.
Really serious instrumental. I say, Genius.
But I am not the only one listen and collecting Zappa music, more people do.
The difference between me and a real collector is that I just have what I like and I sold what I didn't like.
Simple as that !
I say:
I have Hot Rats, You have Bongo Fury. Is that vinyl ?
Ok, we can make an exchange. What you say ?
Sussy Creamchees, my dear, my dolling...
