Ben Edwards' Jamorama interactive, downloadable guitar lessons set is highly touted by the vast majority of those who have bought and used it as well as by quite a number of experienced guitar teachers who have reviewed it.
144 interactive videos, 26 interactive guitar lessons in learning how to play something from every guitar music style, four e-books for people at all levels of guitar playing development and a total of 252 pages in all, plus bonuses such including games for ear training and music reading training come with Jamorama, which Ben Edwards put together because he was fed up with the low quality of guitar instruction books and the usual run of guitar lessons.
They are also boring and as result they cause many would-be guitar players to quit without ever knowing their true potential or the joy of playing guitar; Edwards went out of his way to make Jamorama as much fun as it is informative, and it seems this may be his greatest success with the guitar lessons.
Teachers point out that part of what makes Jamorama so great is the fact that it has the visual component to it. A learning guitar player can actually see how an experienced player makes a given sound, drastically cutting down on the time and frustration level of needing to try and figure it out by ear, by hopeful guesswork from a book, or from trying to remember what a live guitar teacher did just once or twice. Videos can be rewound and replayed at will until the lesson is mastered. The reviewing guitar teachers are also very much in favor of making guitar lessons fun to hold students' attention and take away the intimidation factor.
Guitar students of all different guitar playing styles, including those primarily studying classical guitar, have sung the praises of Jamorama. Most of the time, the feedback from these people is very positive and they testify that these guitar lessons have taken them farther faster, with a great deal more fun and for a great deal less cost, than any other guitar books or private lessons.
For instance, one guitar student named Michelle wrote to Edwards to say, "When I first started playing, I was stuck. I didn't know what to do, or where to go from there. As soon as I got Jamorama, my guitar playing improved greatly! I actually enjoyed practicing. Thank you for this wonderful product!"
Needless to say, nothing is perfect, and no product has ever been all things to all people. Jamorama has received some criticism, although it's limited compared to the praise it's received. The critics almost always are more experienced guitar players who say the more advanced lessons of Jamorama don't teach them much that's new. There have also been some criticisms of the fretboard videography and animation who say it's too unclear and not there in enough abundance.
Nevertheless, the Jamorama guitar lessons do represent pioneering technology in learning how to play the guitar which is sure to benefit every guitar student in some way. The ear training games are worth the price in and of themselves.
