MindiT Bookmarking

This lens introduces MindiT, a free web application that let's you do something completely different with your bookmarks.

Instead of keeping your bookmarks locally, MindiT lets you keep everything online, so you can access it from anywhere (so far nothing new). However, there is a twist: instead of storing your bookmarks in regular lists and folders, MindiT lets you store everything in an attractive graphical mind map like representation.

Think Visual!

A lot of people think and remember things visually, this means that tagging related items with the same color, and clustering them together in the same location can provide visual cues that can help find things faster.

In addition it is a well known fact that mind maps are effective tools for brainstorming, organizing information and retention. This makes MindiT ideal for online research: not only can you collect the data, you can also organize it in a structure that is both meaningful and can help you remember the concepts and ideas for a longer time.

Self Organizing - Feature Rich

Mindit provides a browser add-on (Chrome & Firefox) that automates your map organization. When you want to add a new bookmark, all you need to do is to press a button on your browsers toolbar, and let the add-on do the hard work for you:

  • Find the best place to add the new bookmark, considering such things as matching keywords, your browsing history, and what maps are currently opened in a different tab.

  • Scan the web page for meaningful key words, and use those as search tags.

  • Strip the bookmark title from useless text, so your map can have a clean, uncluttered look (for example, if you bookmark a wikipedia article, the "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" phrase is automatically omitted, leaving only the article name)

After an item is bookmarked it is very easy to rearrange the map, simply drag the bookmarks to their new location, change its color or add a note.

Additional features include:

  • Super fast search.

  • The ability to share your creation with others.

  • Export to HTML.

  • Adding notes.

Is MindiT right for you?

A Quick Test

MindiT isn't suited for everyone, if you routinely visit only 3-4 sites and don't bookmark a lot, this tool is probably not for you.

However, If you answered "yes" for at least 3 of the question below, then the product is worth a try:

  • You have a lot of bookmarks (more than 30).

  • You do a lot of online research.

  • Your memory is for the most part visual.

  • You like to draw diagrams when tackling a complex problem.

  • You often use mind-map diagrams to organize your thoughts, or when learning something new.

  • You like to try out new tools and concepts.
