Last Pharaoh of Egypt - Cleopatra
Queen of the Nile
To get my period Halloween costume just right, I needed to refresh my memory about this most popular Egyptian ruler. Cleopatra was the last Egyptian Pharaoh and ruled for 21 years. She tried but was finally unsuccessful in preventing the Romans from taking over her country.History tells us that Cleopatra committed suicide at the age of 39 by using an asp. The asp is an Egyptian cobra snake and certainly would not be my choice in methods.
She was extremely intelligent and was fluent in nine different languages including the Egyptian language. Cleopatra was not Egyptian by birth. She was actually a Macedonian Greek of the Ptolemy Dynasty.

A Charismatic Queen of Egypt
Many of the people of the world believe that Cleopatra was a women of great beauty, however she most probably was not. Historians believe that it was her great charisma and intelligence that made it easier to seduce the two Romans.We people from the west generally picture a lovely beauty like Elizabeth Taylor who played this great Queen of Egypt in a movie to be what Cleopatra looked like.
Coins and statues made at the time that she was alive depict a rather unattractive woman with a rather hooked nose.
She must have known how to use her feminine charms and wit to win the hearts of two very powerful men.

- Congrats on your win! A coworker with light blonde hair dressed as Cleopatra one year, complete with dark wig. NOBODY recognized her! It was a fabulous party and she was a costume contest finalist.

- You are so right when we assume that Cleopatra was a great beauty. I suspect part of her charm was that she was considered 'forbidden fruit'. Marc Antony sure realized what he had bitten into in the end, didnt he?...lol. Great lens and some great ideas. I think a Cleopatra costume is timeless, elegant and lets you play "Queen for the day". Good job!
