So you want to Adopt a Dog?

Things to think about when adopting a dog.
A dog is for life not just when they are cute puppies, or when they become too much work. If you are a dog lover, we are big dogs a Bullmastif & a Douge de Bourdeaux and need a lot of attention and care and commitment from our owners, you will enjoy reading this humorous take on how we are pampered pets, but we also have a serious message, to help our fellow four-legged friends too?
We are lucky we have a home that is warm, and our owners just love us, our lives never started out like this though, and if our family did not adopt us, I don't know what would have happened. There are hundreds of abandoned dogs every year needing your help. You can read our story of how much fun it is to adopt a dog, but spare a thought for the other big dogs that still need somewhere and if it was not for animal centers, dedicated to helping them, then what would happen to these Dogs?
Dog Adoption
Meet the Family
Mum stays at home, as she does not keep very well, so we keep her company and make sure she is okay. Dad works all day but we love it when he comes home! Our Sister, Rebecca, well she is just the sweetest girl ever. And we have our Nanna and Granny, who we love coming to stay over and spoil us rotten. We also live in harmony with Jura the Lion lop Rabbit, who is as spoiled as us, check out her fancy house, and she just loves bobbing in an out, and loves nothing better than hopping around us!Roxy the Bullmastiff (the darker one), when she was a puppy, her future was uncertain, being the "runt" of the litter, meant the owners would probably not sell her. Thankgoodness Mum and Dad said they would take her, and me my name is Molly and I am Douge de Bourdeaux, who had a horrible introduction to life and started out like living in a top floor flat, being badly treated.
What do we ask for...nothing but some love, and we get plenty here.

These are my own videos of Molly and Roxy
What else do we do?
Sleep...
Yeah Roxy and I love to sleep, it is so good, when we return from our walk, we are really tired out and we flop down on the kitchen floor.....

But you know the kitchen floor really is not comfy....
Now we did have proper dogs baskets...but we could not decided whos' was whos, and we just wanted to share it, but even that is too small for the both of us! this is the biggest dog bed you can buy

When mum got her new leather suite, she said "NO dogs allowed" yeah well that rule lasted long....

Ahhh....nothing like a good stretch out on mums good sofa....

And nothing makes me feel better than wee cuddle from my big sister....

now the best time ever, is when our Nana comes to stay, now you think that would give us a bit of life about us, and we would get so excited...no way..this couch is too comfy...its a tough life being a dog and she cuddles up on the couch with the both of us, all warm in her PJs' too,

Ok...ok...what about our favourite person Rebecca, maybe, just maybe...I will open an eye for her...oh wait a minute she is in her PJ's...so It bed time too.

I will share a secret with you
I am not the laziest, in fact I quite like watching TV with my other Granny, my favourites are CSI and the Dog Whisperer, I love Ceasar!

You see our Roxy jumped off a cliff! yes you heard me right a CLIFF, a very high one, I mean they call me the silly one?.... She chased a seagull over the cliff, so she had to spend some time in the doggie hospital, it gave her a big fright, so sometimes she just loves to be all wrapped up and cozy and know we are there, she cannot get walked as much now either, as although Roxy had broken no bones, she really did hurt herself and we need to be careful not to get her too excited, in case she hurts herself again. But the people at the doggie hospital were so good and even one of the volunteers stayed with her overnight to make sure she was okay....man they do some work at these places, all for their love of animals, and they don't even get paid!
So Roxy loves nothing better than having a great big cuddle, and a blanket.

I would love to adopt another dog, but Steve says I'd best not be bringing any more dogs home. They get so attached to him because he's the one at home all day. When I retire maybe I can add another dog to our family.

No I woud prefer to have a puppy, becasue I could train it the way I wanted to.
jvsper63 says:
If I could. Sometimes it's easy to jump into it . But the expense and if they have problems already its a lot of work. Hopefully this is a good idea and it will help!!!

That's a hard one as I have only ever bought puppies and trained them. So probably not.

They bring so much fun and laughter to our lives
The BuckHawk Centre
Helping dogs find the right home
....Who could resist this face?.....The reason I have shared our story with you, is because we are lucky, we found a home and fit right into our mum and dads lives, we are a part of the family, and loved, spoiled and taken care of.Some dogs are not so lucky, and my mum knows a lady who has volunteered her time to help dogs who are abandoned. The dogs if lucky enough are taken to BuckHawk Centre, where they are currently caring for dogs, cats a small herd of cows, chickens and recently they even helped baby squirrels, and released them back into the wild.
Now the BuckHawk Centre Inc. has been going since 2002, it is a tax exempt organization managed by a fantastic group of volunteers. They help to find homes for the animals, but only ask that you understand the commitment that it takes to keep an animal happy, healthy and content.
They really need more funds to help them cope with the ever growing amount of abandonded dogs, so they can work with them and find them new homes, so they really need help with shelters, and fencing to help them be able to take in these dogs.
All money raised goes to animals' needs. Volunteer staff, including their director, make up the team, ensuring the rescued snimals needs are met, these are costly and includes things like travel to pick up an animal; veterinary care, spaying and neutering; food; shelter; and training to prepare the dogs to become house pets.
If you have enjoyed Molly and Roxys story, remembering they too, were rescued dogs, and how happy as two pigs in....well you know what I mean...
Even in these trying financial times, every cent really will make a difference to the Animals at BuckHawk Centre which is dedicated to the resucing , training and re-homing of animals

- I love the pics of the dogs on the sofa!!! It doesn't seem to matter what you do, dogs will always find their way onto a comfy seat and leave you lots of hairs and fur as reminders that there were there LOL! Loved this lens. Blessed by a Squid Angel ;)
