A Drive through the Colors of Fall

Great places to visit to see the best fall foliage

If you are like me one of the things that I absolutely love to do is to take long drives in the fall.

The colors in the trees along with the beauty of nature is just so visually appealing this time of year. I love the cool crisp feel to the temperature. A hint of the coming winter cold.

The colorful leaves that cover the ground are like a warm blanket covering mother earth as she prepares for the winter.

Fall feels like comfort...like home. For some reason it gives us a warm feeling as the color of the trees and bushes light on fire.

Some of the most beautiful places to visit in the fall our the National Parks.

Lets take a virtual drive together through some of our National Parks, our thanks to the wonderful photographers that have shared their beauty with us.

The Blue Ridge Parkway
The Parkway connects Shenandoah National Park near Waynesboro, VA (Milepost 0) with Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, NC (Milepost 469). There are entrances and exits at all major federal and state highways and part of a Parkway experience is getting into the towns and communities of the region. Asheville and Boone, NC and Roanoke, VA are the largest cities along the way. In Virginia, Interstates 64, 81, and 77 all have directions for accessing the Parkway. The same is true for Interstates 40 and 26 in North Carolina.

Carl Sandburg spent a lifetime exploring what it meant to be an American and asked the eternal questions, "Who am I, where am I going and where have I been?"

The Cherokee Indians, a branch of the Iroquois nation, can trace their history in this region back more than a thousand years. Originally their society was based on hunting, trading, and agriculture. By the time European explorers and traders arrived, Cherokee lands covered a large part of what is now the southeastern United States.

Lovely, I know I have a picture we've taken of Maroon Bells somewhere, and of course Rocky Mountain Natl. Park, but not in the fall...those are two, at least, of the places I've been when visiting my husband's home State.
