A Handmade Easter

Featuring craft projects and ideas to create your own Handmade Easter.

Handmade is especially popular at the moment, probably in part due to the fact that people are trying to save money, and trying to recycle items into their craft projects.
For me personally, handmade has been my whole life. I have been crafting, sewing and knitting from a young age and I still do. As any passionate crafter will tell you, it gives me an excited feeling inside to find a new idea or project, and I just want to try it right then and there.

Even if you do not celebrate Easter as a holiday, this page has lot's of Spring style handmade projects and ideas you can take away with you, I am quite sure you will leave here with lot's of inspiration.

When I think of creating handmade for Easter or Spring, I think of Bunnies, Birds, Bird nests and Eggs mostly, probably because it is a time of new birth, a fresh beginning with the start of Spring time, the birds are chirping and making nests to keep their eggs warm, and flowers in some parts of the world are starting to come alive again.

I have gathered some beautiful handmade craft projects and ideas for you to try, some of my own and some from other crafters and designers.

How to make a Spring time tote

from designer Betz White

felted toteWhen I saw this lovely bag I wanted to run out to the thrift store and look for some wool sweaters.

This is a free tutorial by the talented Betz White author and designer, known for her beautiful creations made from thrift store wool sweaters that she felts in the washing machine. The instructions are so easy to follow and Betz takes amazing photographs so you can see every little detail.

You do not want to miss her blog, check out her other tutorials, join her new spring workshop and make a cute bird house , and just be so inspired. Give the Spring mini tote a try and how about a Cashmere Bunny to go with it?

I don't have any felted sweaters at the moment so I used some wool felt to make this sweet little bunny. You can have it done in no time, even make a few.

Thank you Betz for allowing me to share your talent here.
Please read about her wonderful book Warm Fuzzies.

Warm Fuzzies

Betz White is the author of "Warm Fuzzies" which was published back in 2007.
I remember her before that on Etsy.com where she sold her famous felted cupcakes. Now you can learn how to make them through the instructions in this crafters must have book.
Filled with beautiful detailed photographs and instructions, you will find 30 projects using cast away sweaters that are thrown in the washing machine to felt, then cut up and made into beautiful, creative items for yourself, pets , friend and for around the home.
You can take a look inside her book while you are on Amazon.

My Cashmere Bunny

A Simple project for knitters

from designer Jessica Okui

knitting, easter bunnyCreated by Jessica Okui on Zakka Life, these sweet little Bunny Egg Cozies will bring joy to children and adults alike this Easter.

You don't need much yarn, and can knit them up in no time at all.
Find Jessica's free pattern by clicking on her photograph.

Jessica Okui creates original craft projects and posts her tutorials on Zakka Life weekly, where she also shares her tips for entertaining along with recipes and more. Thank you to Jessica for allowing me to share your cute project on my Handmade Easter lens. I am still hoping for a chance to try your pattern.

Bunny Cuteness

Sew up a bunch of cute, cute bunnies in bright fabrics for a fun easter. You could even have the kids help you with this, they can stuff them for you, or stitch the faces. I remember learning how to use embroidery stitches at a very young age.

This free pattern and tutorial comes from talented blogger Revoluzzza

Make a napkin ring from a toilet paper roll

I made this sweet napkin ring in literally 5 minutes.

Use an empty roll from toilet tissue or paper towel.
Cut down the centre then cut whatever width you would like for your napkin ring.
Cut some scrapbook paper double the length of your cardboard piece with a half an inch on each end.
Glue the paper to the cardboard roll, folding in the corners, which gives you a pointy shape at the end.
Punch a hole on each end.
Thread ribbon through the holes and tie in knot.
Attach a flower with floral wire and finish off your bow.

Have fun making wool felt eggs

You can have more fun with wool felt following instructions or the video for these lovely little decorative eggs.

Add them to a pretty bowl, place them in egg cups or tea cups as decoration.

Another Handmade Idea For You

Make your own bird nest charm for Easter

flickrWhen I think of Easter and Spring I always think of bird nests.
I got hooked on making these little wire charms about six months ago and have made many more since then.

Beware, because they can become addicting, but that's ok, they are always a nice little gift.
The four you see in the photo were my very first, and the video I chose for you from Youtube is really great to get you started.
I hope you enjoy it.

You can make a wreath like this one

Spray paint a grapevine wreath in a soft pastel color if you are using the pastel eggs.

Glue the eggs to the wreath randomly using several different sizes.

Wrap some grapevine around it and that's all there is too it.

You could also add a little moss here and there if you prefer too.

Mine is hanging over a chippy old mirror and I love bringing it out every year.

I would love to know what type of handmade you like to make

If you have a minute to vote in my poll I would really appreciate it, I would like to know what you prefer for your handmade items.

In China people don't celebrate Easter, so there are no jelly beans, no chocolate eggs, and no white eggs to dye. So we have to get creative!
