Follow the Purple Brick Road
As a kid, to the dismay of my parents, I remember insisting that the walls of my bedroom be painted purple. Since then, the colour has seemed to follow me through life. On all those important occasions such as birthdays, weddings and anniversaries, purple was there.
So, it is humbling to see that purple has followed me into my online life at Squidoo. Humbling, because here purple represents the esteem of your peers for the articles that one creates. It is, therefore, with many thanks that I present those that have been awarded this badge of honour: the Purple Star.

An A-Z of Purpleness
Over the more that four years that I and my wife have been associated with Squidoo, we have been so grateful for the recognition of our work from our peers through the Purple Star programme.If it wasn't for you this page would not exist, so I send my thanks and appreciation to all of those who have taken their time to visit these thirteen pages and send in the nominations. These are among some of my personal favourites too, so it is heartwarming to know that they have been honoured in this way.

Blue Turns Purple
Blue was one of the most popular boy bands in the UK at the turn of the new millennium.Several Number One songs and a few years later, the members decided to go their separate ways for solo careers. However, the lure of the Eurovision Song Contest brought them back together at the beginning of 2011.
While the band didn't win the Contest, the quartet are still performing together and thankfully, my article changed Blue into purple.

British Glam Rock of the 1970s
The inspiration for an article can come from anywhere.When my wife and I first met (she from the States and I from the UK), there was a lot about our respective cultures to be discovered. Little did I know that the idea for her next Squidoo article was amongst my old record collection. Many of the records she had not heard before and so began her quest to discover all things British and glam (with a little help from yours truly).
If I remember correctly, this page was among the first to be bestowed with the honour of a Purple Star at the end of May 2009. It is still an inspiration to me in article creation and I'm thankful it remains one of her most popular.
Bruno Tonioli
Dancing With the Stars Judge
My wife had always been a fan of Dancing With the Stars, so it was only natural that she would focus her attention on the show for another of her articles.Created under the SquidWho banner, here's a step by step guide to the crazy dance judge, Bruno Tonioli, who is also a member of the panel on the UK equivalent, Strictly Come Dancing.
As in the US, he shares the judging duties with co-judge, Len Goodman, but also sits alongside Alesha Dixon and Craig Revel Horwood.
In the US, his other co-judge is Carrie Ann Inaba.

I remembered her wanting to write a Halloween article, but she was looking for something a little different to publish. With music as one of my preferred subjects, I suggested some Halloween music.
Although orange and black are associated with the holiday, I was pleased to learn that some purple had been thrown into the mix too.

Little did I know that this article and the young girl who inspired it would become so popular.Jackie Evancho, the 11-year-old cross-over operatic singer, was the runner-up of the 2010 season of the America's Got Talent TV show.
Since then, she has gone on to become a best selling recording artist the world over.
In the meantime, a little purple was showered upon this page as well.

One of the biggest events in the UK calendar during 2011 has been the marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton. As a Brit, I couldn't let the wedding pass me by, so a tribute to Ms. Middleton (now the Duchess of Cambridge) seemed to be the thing to do. Purple has always been associated with royalty, so I was very grateful when it was officially bestowed upon this article.

A Fun Debate
This was a fun one to create. Do you remember all the fuss about Katy Perry's (non) appearance on Sesame Street because of low cut outfit she was wearing? Probably one of the quickest articles I have ever published, much of it was written tongue-in-cheek. Created as a debate, it was great to read all the various opinions and wonderful to learn that it head been dusted with purple.

A Personal Diary
This is another article that is close to my heart. It is the very first one that I wrote on this platform, as well as being one that was the most difficult to put into words. Once I had started, it just flowed. A sad and dark time in my life, it not only was honoured with a Purple Star but also as Lens of the Day. For that, I shall be eternally grateful.

- While reading this lens, I have the strange feeling that you're one of those lensmasters who's got awarded purple stars on the lenses you actually love... Am I right? As to be honest, I couldn't write a short intro for all the 15 purple star awarded lenses I've in my account ;)
