Looking To Achieve A Lower Golf Score?

Whether you are a beginner, or a seasoned golfer, finding an easy way to a lower golf score is on your mind. I have been golfing for years, and I am always looking for the best way to improve my score. I'm sure even most professionals are looking for another way to lower their score, but we'll forget about them right now because they don't need as much help as we do! Read on to get some help to a lower golf score.

So What Exactly Is The Easiest Way To A Lower Golf Score?

The easiest way to a lower golf score is to improve your putting. Putting accounts for more strokes than any other shot. In general putting is 40-55% of your score. This means that the easiest way to get a lower score is to perfect your putting. All aspects of your game are important, but most do not place the emphasis on putting like they should. Even if your game needs improvement in many areas, simply improving your putting will lower your score more than anything else can. I'll give you some things to think about when you practice your putting.

Basic Technique

Two Basic Putting Methods

There is generally two schools of thought on the basics of putting. I personally don't think one is necessarily better than the other, whatever makes more sense for you. The first method, and the one that I use, is simply the straight back and forward style, like a pendulum. It is simple, but requires the proper stance, and grip. Alignment is very important in any putt, but especially here. You should try to make your wrists, arms, and shoulders act as one solid mechanism.
The other method involves a more arced style of action. This means as you pull the putter back it will rotate slightly with the natural turning of the wrists. This style can be very effective, but requires a little more perfecting. Whichever is your style, stick with it, and make sure you have the right putter.

The Mental Game

The Most Important Part Of Golf

So while you are practicing your putting, you should try to come up with a pre-putt routine. This will allow your mind to reach the same level of comfort and confidence with each putt. Have you ever been staring at a 5 foot putt with no confidence, and when you actually took the putt, it went 5 feet long or stopped 3 feet short? This is because you had no confidence! Confidence is key in putting, and each golf shot. Without it you are dooming yourself to failure. You can gain confidence with a pre-putt routine that you are comfortable with, and has shown positive results.

Reading The Green

Another Key Aspect Of Putting

Reading the green is a crucial part of successful putting. It will be a good part of your pre-putt routine to take a thorough look a t the green. You should take a look from behind the ball, and behind the hole. Then from the side, and from a standing position, and a kneeling position. It is also a good idea to get a general perspective of the entire green. This can give you a hint on subtle break that might not be apparent otherwise.
Something that can also be overlooked when reading the green is the grain of the grass. It can have a surprising effect on the way the ball rolls.
