The Links Voting (Plexo) Module

For a newbie to Squidoo, the art of lensmaking (yes, it's an art) might seem confusing at first. So many choices, and so little time!

At first, I thought only of getting the word out on topics I liked. It never occurred to me to open up the line of communication, and give readers a say in what was happening on a lens. After studying some of the Giant Squids' work, I began to understand that it's not about me or about my topics. It's about them--the people who will pause to read my lens.

This lens explains my favorite module, and why a Links List Voting Plexo consider it a must-have for every lens. I use them frequently now, and plan to go back and add them to my earlier lenses, as well.

Why Include an Interactive Module on your Squidoo Lens? 

Five reasons to invite Squidoo readers to interact

1. People are the driving force behind Squidoo. Their opinions matter. Give them a chance to connect.

2. Listening is a life skill that spills over into the Web world. Visitors take time to interact via Links lists; listen to what they have to say.

3. A lens without at least one interactive module gives the impression that you've built a tall fence around yourself.

4. Interaction is fun. (That's why Twitter works so well, too.)

But as fluff points out it's effectiveness is limited. I really wish it was left up to the lensmaster whether or not to allow anyone to vote or just logged in Squidoo members.

I also agree with thefluffanutta, depending on your audience it can be tricky. However, it does work well for providing links and back links for your related lenses that you have in the Plexo too.

It really depends on the lens. I use link plexo's sometimes as an easy way to link to a group of lenses (all my lenses about squidoo for instance, or all new lenses). On other lenses I use it as an alternative for a link list. But I agree with Fluf: only if your target audience is squidoo lensmasters are they capable of voting or submitting something. And even if they are - they often just won't vote or submit.

I agree with Fluff. I rarely use them. Link lists or polls are better substitutes. Most of my visitors are from outside Squidoo. If your lens is Squidoo related, then it would make sense to use one.
