A Review By BookLover87
John Grisham's Book "A Painted House" Is narrated by a seven year old boy living in Rural Arkansas during the 1950's. He tells about the day to day life of his family as they worry about crops and Ricky, a family member fighting in Korea. They are cotton farmers, in debt, who hire on a set of Mexicans (as they are called in the book) and Hill people (again as they are called in the book). The Mexicans and Hill People, along with the boy narrating, his grandfather, father, grandmother and mother set out each morning to pick cotton. Times are tough, and before long things happen. Things are as they would be for a farming family until one of the Hill People kills another farmer's child during a fight. A choice is made, and more violence ensues. To make matters worse, a girl comes forth, a new mother, who claims her child is Ricky's. This is a nice read, but definitely not for kids. I would have to say this is in the frontier / western genre of books.
