A Redneck Restaurant: The Rocky Mountain Redneck Company Cafe

Cranbrook is on Highway 3/95 which is kind of where Highways 3 and 95 intertwine. Highway 3 is more fondly known as "The Crow". If you are coming from Calgary just stay on the Crow till you hit 93 or highway 95 and from there you'll find highway 3/95....or so we hope?

If you are coming in from the US then once you pass Yahk, you know that you are getting close....

Just watch for the picture of the black crow on the highway signs.....

In April of 2008 when Audra and her husband Kevin opened the Rocky Mountain Redneck Company Cafe' in Cranbrook, B.C., they brought with them twenty five years experience in the Restaurant industry, and a wealth of tasty recipes to share with the inhabitants of this bustling community of about 20,000.

While they were busy scouting out a location for their Redneck restaurant they discovered that just around the corner from their proposed location another local restaurant had closed. That owner was busy loading his wares into a waiting truck in preparation to "lock er up!" Kevin and Audra quickly closed a deal with him and the tables and chairs from his restaurant moved around the corner and into their establishment.

To acquire the best dishes that money could buy, Audra made a quick trip to the local Salvation Army, and with the addition of these the Cafe was almost fully equipped to operate.

A couple local auctions later to acquire the remainder of their operating merchandise and they were ready to open their doors in a distinctly Classy Trashy Decorative styling.

Of course since their opening in 2008, the local Rednecks have also found time to contribute to the distinct furnishings of this local hangout too, so every few weeks a new item gets added to it's furnishings.

The really great news about The Rocky Mountain Redneck Company Cafe' though is that entrance into this exclusive Company is free with any purchase so virtually anyone can join.

Meet Barb .....She's The Rocky Mountain Redneck Company Cafe' Waitress and she is good!

From dashing your dinner out to you, to serving you up that extra cup of hot coffee, you'll find Barb busily scooting about the Cafe.

So if you are visiting Cranbrook stop by and say hi.

She's dressed to zip off here because I caught her just as she was getting ready to head home. She paused, I clicked, and she ran.....

Redneck meals worthy of a typical Redneck appetite has the menu including such full meal delights as:

And of course just so much more....

For a lighter afternoon fare The Rocky Mountain Redneck Company Cafe' hosts an afternoon "Tea for Two" Monday to Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This delightful Redneck version of High Tea offers up an array of sandwiches, deserts, and coffee or tea for only $5.99.

Well Audra got a phone call one day from one of their regular customers, it seems that he just didn't feel like getting dressed that day, but he sure wanted some of the Rocky Mountain Redneck Cafe's homestyle cooking. He had devised a plan so he could accomplish both and he just needed Audra's cooperation on the deal.

Well you just can't go into a local restaurant half nude, so he was going to pull up in his pickup truck, and she could serve him out there. Which is exactly what she did. She also passed him a special little something to hang in his pickup truck, it was a set of furry red dice with the words "Trailer Trash" imprinted on them, she figured it just somehow seemed to suit the situation.

Now that is customer service with a smile!

Now it is common knowledge around the area that locals are always trying to sneak a peak into the Redneck Company Cafe' kitchen to see exactly what goes into their secret recipes. Many have tried and many have failed to acquire that coveted menu. Those recipes are more closely guarded than Colonel Sanders secrets!

Although not too many locals ever manage to sneak a peek into that kitchen, I managed to receive a very special permission slip to enter, and what I found was Kevin back there busily creating Redneck meals. Now most of the regulars won't ever see Kevin though as he is usually hidden away in the kitchen, and much like the famous Canadian Ogopogo you hear rumors that he exists, but you just aren't quite sure till you actually catch a glimpse of him.

Well I am officially here to verify that he is indeed real and I have the pictures to prove it! Kevin is in the depths of the kitchen busy putting the finishing touches on his one of a kind Redneck meals.

.....just keep in mind when you visit the Rocky Mountain Redneck Cafe' that there is a thin wall that divides the territories, Audra and Barb go right, and you go left!

A lucky penny found on the sidewalk can be a world of dreams to a young child. Although most grown ups usually won't admit it, that little found coin means something special to them too.

Squirrels are a very special kind of creature. They are furry, cute, hardworking, inquisitive and a joy to watch. They are also pesky, thieving, biting, chewing, disease ridden varmits. It all depends how you view them.
