A tribute to my Brothers in Arms

A tribute to those fallen in Afghanistan

Here is my personal tribute to my colleagues that have paid the ultimate price in battle, and to those who have sacrificed so much.
I have lost many friends to the inevitability of war, a few i had the privilege to serve along side.

Brothers in Arms

undefinedFrom joining the British Army in 1990 i have served in every conflict to date ( including some small lesser publicised ones), I have always been proud to be able to serve my country and will carry on doing so for as long as i can.
This is not a unique stance but a strong calling for those who choose to wear the uniform, these people become part of an extended family, soldiers who have never met will feel sadness and loss when they hear the news of another death. They realise that a colleague has fallen doing his duty and wished they were there, no matter where, in the darkest corners of battle, it doesn't matter , they need to be there.

Bravery for these men isn't something they muster, its something they naturally have, and without a thought will use it to throw a steely eyed stare at danger. They will not let fear conquer them , instead they harness fear and use it as a power source.

For those who have fallen, it wasn't because they stumbled or retreated but advanced to protect others, doing their duty as they promised and for that alone they should be celebrated and Never forgotten. Even after death their spirit remains and stands fast in battle, re-enforcing the resolve of others, bolstering the pride of many, not only on the battlefield but those at home console grief with pride.
Although a fallen hero is and will always be so sorely missed, they are a part of everyone who knows them, a part that can never be replaced, pride can loosely veil but never replace...

To my friends , my colleagues , my hero's

I salute you and your strength, gone but not forgotten, your deeds and bravery are the very mortar that binds our strength, your spirit re-enforces us and in your memory we will always have freindship.

You can rest now as you deserve, If there is a Heaven enjoy it... You have done your time in Hell.....

Thank you for your service, and for this touching tribute. My late husband served in the 1st Cavalry in Vietnam, and reading your story reminds me of his. Blessed.

I totally agree with what you say. We will never forget them I served in the early 80's and every one who's ever worn a uniform joins you in the sentiment.
