Making Cocktails is Fun

Join me as I delve into the world of the mixologist. Let's see how to make cocktails such as the Apple Martini (Appletini), Bellini Cocktail, Cosmopolitan Cocktail and more.

I have cocktail recipes for cocktails beginning with A, B or C.

We have must have 'making cocktails' gear - cocktail shakers, muddlers and cocktail glasses just for you.

Whether you are a novice at making cocktails or a mixologist extrodinaire come with me into the fun world of the cocktail.

Cocktails beginning with A 

Appletini's, Appetizers etc

Absinthe Minded

2 shots vodka
1 shot absinthe
1/2 shot cranberry juice
1/2 shot blue curacao

Combine all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

After Eight Martini

1 1/2 shots vodka
1 1/2 shots chocolate liqueur
3/4 shot peppermint liqueur

Put all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass and enjoy!

Alternatini

6 parts vodka
1/2 tsp sweet vermouth
1/2 tsp dry vermouth
1 tsp white creme de cacao
sweetened cocoa powder
hershey's kiss

Rim a chilled martini glass with the sweetened cocoa powder. Place all of the liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and then strain into a martini glass and garnish with the hershey's kiss.

 

These delicious cocktails need some nice cocktail glasses to serve them in.

Anouchka

This delicious cocktail was invented by Salvatore Calabrese, barman of the Lanesborough Hotel, London and named after a Russian guest.

2 1/2 shots vodka
1/3 shot blackberry liqueur

Stir together in a mixing glass with ice. To serve strain and pout into a cocktail glass

Appetizer

A very easy to make cocktail based on the underused apperitif dubonnet: -

6 parts dubonnet
juice of 1 orange (freshly squeezed)

Shake in a shaker with ice, then strain and serve in a Martini glass.

Appletini's or Apple Martini's

3 parts vodka
1 part apple schnapps
1 part cointreau

This martini can be mixed or shaken with ice and then strained into a cocktail glass to serve.

Asian Pear Martini

2 shots sake rice wine
1/2 shot pear liqueur
1/2 shot Poire William
1 1/2 shots freshly pressed pear juice
1/4 shot freshly squeezed lemon juice

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice. Next strain into a cocktail glass and enjoy!

Atomic Orange

1 shot vodka
1 1/2 shots Midori
2 shots freshly squeezed orange juice

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Aurora Borealis

1 measure iced vodka
1 measure iced green Chartreuse
1/2 measure iced orange curacao
few drops iced cassis

Pour the vodka slowly round one side of a well-chilled shot glass. Carefully pour the Charteuse round the other side. Pour the curacao gently into the middle and add a few drops of cassis. Do not stir, leave the spirits to swirl around the glass.

Cocktails beginning with B 

Brass Monkey, Blue Hawaiian, Black Russian etc

Baby Bellini

chilled sparkling cider
4 parts peach nectar
2 parts fresh lemon juice

Pour the fruit juices into a chilled champagne flute. Stir well and add cider to the rim, stir carefully and serve.

Black Ice Martini

2 shots vodka
2 shots black sambuca
1/4 shot creme de menthe

Place all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and then strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

Black Russian

½ pint Champagne
½ pint Stout

Make sure both ingredients are chilled and pour them both into a highball glass at the same time. Do not stir.

Blue Lagoon

A really refreshing cocktail made from:-

2 parts vodka
1 part blue curacao
lemonade

Fill a tall glass with ice, add vodka, blue curacao and top with lemonade, give it a quick stir with a straw and serve.

Brandy Alexander

3 parts brandy
3 parts dark crème de cacao
3 parts half-and-half

Shake all of the ingredients along with ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a snifter glass to serve.

Brandy Daisy

4 parts brandy
1 part fresh lemon juice
1 tsp Grenadine
½ tsp bar sugar
maraschino cherry

Combine all the ingredients (except the cherry) in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well. Strain and pour into an old fashioned glass, garnish with the cherry to serve.

Brandy Vermouth Cocktail

6 parts brandy
1 part sweet vermouth
dash angostura bitters

Shake all of the ingredients together, with ice, in a shaker and strain into a martini glass to serve.

This cocktail is said to have been created by Johnny Solon in 1906 while he was working at the Waldorf-Astoria

2 shots gin
1 shot dry vermouth
1 shot sweet vermouth
juice from 1/2 orange

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice. To serve strain into a cocktail glass.

 

Stainless Steel Martini Glasses

These martini glasses are a little different than the norm as they are made of stainless steel. Not only will these glasses (can you still call them glasses?) be a talking point with your guests they will also help to keep your drinks colder for longer.

Cocktails beginning with C 

Cosmopolitans, Chocolate Soldiers, Cafe Romanos etc

Café Romano

2 parts white sambuca
2 parts kahlua
2 parts cream

Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice, then strain and serve in a Martini glass.

Capri

2 parts white creme de cacao
2 parts creme de bananes
2 parts half'n'half

Shake all of the ingredients, along with ice, together in a cocktail shaker. Strain into an old fashioned glass over ice cubes.

Capucine

More a shooter than a true cocktail, it looks and tastes divine:-

crushed ice
1 part iced blue curacao
1 part iced parfait amour

Pack a shooter glass with crushed ice and then carefully pour in the blue curacao, next slowly top up with the parfait amour.

 

An old fashioned glass is essential in your home bar, not only for Capris and Brandy Daisys, but also for whiskey and bourbon.

Luigi Bormioli Lucia 11-Ounce Double Old Fashioned Glasses, Set of 4

This Italian designed glass has a heavy base which I personally like in an old fashioned. Having that weight makes your drink seem even more special.

The design, in my mind, is a classic.

Champagne Cocktail

1 sugar cube
angostura bitters
chilled champagne
lemon twist

Place the sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute and put a few dashes of angostura bitters onto it. Next fill with champagne, stir and garnish with the lemon twist.

Champagne Cooler

3 parts brandy
2 parts triple sec
Champagne
fresh mint

For this cocktail you simple put the brandy and triple sec in a red wine glass top up with Champagne and stir. Garnish it with a sprig of fresh mint to serve.

Choco-Coconutini

1 shot vodka
1 shot Malibu
1 shot chocolate liqueur

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass to serve.

1 1/2 shots vodka
1 shot Grand Marnier
2 shots cranberry juice
1/2 shot freshly squeezed lime juice

Shake all of the ingredients together with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass to serve.
