Abdominal Fat Could Be Dangerous

"Beer belly" is more a term of endearment than a comment on an ugly fat covering the abs. But there is nothing endearing about the layer of fat covering the abs. In fact this layer of fat could be very dangerous.

Subcutaneous and Visceral Abdominal Fat

When you pinch off that layer of fat over your abs or use the body fat calipers, you are measuring the subcutaneous fat.

Visceral fat is found deeper inside what is known as the peritoneal cavity - The space that contains your organs.

As in most cases what we don't see poses more danger than what we do see. Scientist report that in case of abdominal fat, visceral fat poses a greater danger than the subcutaneous fat. Some of the dangers visceral fat poses include risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, various forms of cancer, and other degenerative diseases.

Visceral Fat and Inflammatory Molecules

According to scientists visceral fats produces inflammatory molecules that contribute hypertension, type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis, among other things.

According to Luigi Fontana, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, "Nowadays, it's clear that atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease. There also is evidence that inflammation plays a role in cancer, and there is even evidence that it plays a role in aging. Someday we may learn that visceral fat is involved in those things, too."

It seems that having a goal of nice six pack of an ab is more than a vanity case and it could contribute to our health and longevity.

Abdominal Fat and Menopause

As we age we lose muscle tissue, we burn less calories and we gain weight and store fat easier. However, the weight gain in post-menopausal women without any change in their eating habits could be related a decline in estrogen production. Without sufficient estrogen, more fat will inevitably be stored around the middle.

Fast Abdominal Fat Loss

Are you ready for some honest and somewhat painful truth? Yup, you guessed it, there isn't an easy or fast solution, no quick fixes, no miracle 48 hour drinks or $150 dollar a bottle pills. And the idea of spot reduction is just smoke and
mirror tricks. Have you ever seen anyone who has high fat percentage and a six pack at the same time? Ab exercises tighten loose ab muscles and hold the insides where they belong so the posture improves and the waist measurement decreases, but the fat is still there.

Effective Abdominal Fat Loss

The good news is that you may already be doing a lot of the right things but perhaps not in the right order or you may need slight changes in what you do.

What really gets rid of abdominal fat is a combination of a nutritious diet loaded with unprocessed natural foods and a strategically designed exercise program to stimulate the necessary hormonal and metabolic response in your body.

Let me repeat that, unprocessed natural foods. This is not the same as low calorie processed food and the second part is exercise programs stimulate the necessary hormonal and metabolic response. This is not the same as working hard in the gym.

Natural Learning Backfires with Abdominal Workouts

Most people learn by imitation and not by study. Just take a look at children; do they study vocabulary and grammar in order to speak? Do they put on video tapes to learn how to walk? Of course not, they just watch and learn.

The problem with this type of natural learning by imitation is that most people around us at home, at work and even at the gym do not know how to work out. They combine some sort of ineffective cardio routines with a few crunches and side bends and off they go. Then they get discouraged and frustrated when they get no results.

Well, there is another way, a better way, a more productive way that was developed over a decade researching this topic, analyzing the science, and applying it "in the trenches." It is compiled in Truth About Six Pack Abs Program.

Home ab workout: crunch exercise for 6-pack abs

http://forum.scoobysworkshop.com Got fitness questions? Check out the free AskScooby forum! Don't let the TV ads convince you to buy some bulky contraption that will gather dust in your closet, crunches are safe and effective! This video clip shows how to do crunches with varying degrees of difficulty based on your ability. Remember that ab exercises alone will not give you abs! If you have the best abs in the world they will be completely invisible if you are overweight. Aerobic exercise and proper diet are even more important than ab exercises in getting that sought after 6-pack. Form is very important in crunches, many people do them incorrectly and end up working out their neck or hips more than their abs. Use slow movements and only use the abs. Concentrate on trying to raise your shoulders straight up towards the ceiling. Don't worry about how many reps you do but focus on using perfect form. No whipping the head around or flapping your arms! This is not a sit-up either, the hips are stationary. Also important is to minimize any tension in the neck, I do this by very lightly supporting my head with my hands or the weight plate The main reason to workout abs is because strong abs stabilize your lower back and shield you from injury but as a side benefit a 6-pack looks great!
