Intro To Utopianism

The word "utopia," in its most common meaning, refers to a socially or politically perfect state or nation. Alternatively, it can also be understood to mean the human efforts to create a better society, or more specifically, a perfect society that does not yet exist. A utopia is perfect in every aspect and there is no negative aspect to it. An example of a utopia would be heaven. Ideas which could radically change societies or governments are may be referred to as "utopian ideas," often in a negative tone. Similarly, "utopia" can be used in a negative way; often to discredit ideas deemed too optimistic, unrealistic, or hopeful to be practically realized in the world as it exists today.

Types of Utopian Societies

Yes... There is more than one way to get there

The first aspect is the Scientific and technological utopia. There have been many attempts to find a technological solution to the worlds problems, indeed there is a body of thought which states that ever since the start of the industiral revolution, and some would even say since man first tamed fire; that humanity has been on a quest to fix every problem which we encounter with a clever invention. The end goal of such a quest must surely be a technological utopia. A technological utopia would invovle the use of technological advances to serve the creator in other words humans would be served by there machines. A machine which could control atoms to a subatomic level, that would turn base metal into gold has been the alchamists dream for thousands of years. There is a good reason for this, almost all wars that have ever been fought have in some way been over some hard to find natural resource, be it gold, tin, water or oil. If then there was found a way to turn any one element into another then there would presumably be no need to fight over many of the currently most war tourn areas of the world.

Religous Utopia is the utopia that gets the most attention. A heaven on earth according to Abrahamic religons will be possible in time. Imagine a world where anything good you can think of is possible. Peace, Plenty and Happiness is the key to religous utopia. Imagine a no more wars and no more violence.

In todays the world violence and evil is the root of its problems. Think about the seven deadly sins everyone seems to follow them. We do it everyday and we never spend anytime giving, caring and to stop and think what were doing. Were obsessed with the now, we dont learn from the past and we seem to care less and less about the future. The Key to Peace is through Happiness and Sharing it with everyone. Happiness not that temporary fleeting feeling after you indulged yourself but, the feeling of when you give to someone or forgive someone. To forgive is a higher path than to hate.

Guarenteed if there was no violence, no evil and no hate for one day but only good the world would be a better place.

So Good V. Bad

The opposite of a utopia

Life is dualistic and deterministic. Whatever choices a society decides to take is to be eithier to great good or great evil.

A technological dystopia would resemble George Orwell's 1984 or Audrous Huxley's "Brave new World." Science coupled with technologically advanced dystopian dociety would invite only government to suppres us and ruin us. Big Brother would monitor our every move and scientist would use drugs to keep us sedate and unaware of what is really going on in life.

An economic dystopia would invovle economically suppressing the masses. Keeping them poor, uneducated and near starving. The rich would rule over the few and the elite would use this to control the own agenda.

The World Today

Currently Where I Think We Are Headed

To be honest its hard to say were we are headed. War is everywhere, people are starving and dying of diseases.
However I am a more spirtual person and I believe we are headed to a brighter future by the theory of enlightenment thru process. Every mistake we make we as a society learn never to do again.

I believe that we are headed to eithier the technological view. The question now is which technological future is ours? The Utopian or Dystopian?

A technological utopian is suport by the strides we made in enginnering and the human mind's unlimited imagination. However, in this post 9/11 world security is of value espically in the most developed countries. With CCTV's and covert surviallence programs this world seems to be a real world interpretation of George Orwell's 1984. Its still a major question as to which dualistic choice we as a species will make.

I myself am more spirtualistic and I believe that the world will witness a revalation and that there will be "a heaven on earth." I believe that happiness is contagious. Happiness is something everyone wants "When Joe see's Bob happy; Joe should ask him why and how we had become so happy. Bob should tell him." To share in the moment is better than to be alone. This Heaven on Earth is attainable everyday but we need to work on it now.
