Reestablish Your Natural Biological Rhythms

Daylight Saving Time was voted in by the U.S. government during World War II (after an unsuccessful attempt earlier). It supposedly saves energy BUT this has never been proven. What it does create is more disharmony with our natural rhythms. Those rhythms connect us to the world instead of separate us from it. If this planet is going to have a sustainable future, then honoring our natural rhythms is extremely important in that shift.

Isn't it time to abolish Daylight Saving Time?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Absolutely! Quit messing with my brain.

Michael Johanson says:

End Daylight Saving Time and its ludicrous self deception. The only way to get more daylight is to get up earlier and I don't need the government to tell me to do that 8 months out of the year.

Brookelorren says:

I live in Arizona, where we don't have daylight savings time, and it's great! It is a pain when we have to adjust our television schedules twice a year, and have to recalculate what time it is over at my parent's house. If people want more light, why couldn't opening hours change for the winter or something? That's what they do at the zoo and other places that rely on daylight (at least around here). Why mandate a time change for everyone?

Debra says:

Yes! It's pointless and inconvienent, it causes unneccesary stress to the mind and body. I can adapt to the natural loss of light, it would be healthier to not change our body clocks every year. I hate it, I teach high school and I can see the adverse effects of this antiquated system on my students. Why do we do this? It's time to stop.

diane says:

end daylight savings time - research into who wants it to remain and it is ALL ABOUT MONEY

spirituality says:

Not only is it messing with our brain, but it also doesn't save energy. SO there really is no rational to keep daylight saving time.

Robert Spink says:

Yes Its about time to do away with DST for good

Janet says:

Get rid of this idiotic and unnecessary system!

bigfriendly15 says:

I drive a large truck at my job and in the winter it's a real pain when it's dark at 4:00. I hate driving long distances in the dark and I hit a dear last November. I just don't see the point of rolling it back. Good lens by the way. Very informative.

Erik Lenhart says:

This measure is unnecessary since modern economies work differently. It only is discomforting to both human and animals. In Japan there is no such a nonsense and their economy is preforming the same as EU and any advanced economies. The Summer time is obsolete ineffective and harmful.

nomoredst says:

It's an outdated practice, doesn't save anything and even increases the rates of heart attacks and accidents.

Ener-G says:

It took my 16 year old son, more than a week to adjust. It was impossible to get him up in the morning. Teenagers already are time challenged. Stop torturing us with DST!

ChrisDSTNoMas! says:

I agree. DST doesn't "save" anything. It actually consumes more energy because more people drive after work with more light in the evenings, and more electricity and heat are used in March and November with the unnaturally dark mornings.

Marianne says:

Get RID of it. I HATE HATE HATE Daylight Savings Time. It sucks. Losing that hour of sleep and that extra daylight in the morning is not good for the body and certainly doesn't SAVE any energy. Weak argument that there is any 'energy savings'. Get rid of it, the sooner the better.

Serg says:

No way the goverment is screwing with our natural God given time clocks and all it does is lower our immune system. God did not intend for us to be waking up at irregular man made time changes. DST time has to go. We are meant to wake up when the Sun Rises and sleep wiwhen the Sun sets period.

Chris1392 says:

It's the resetting of the clocks that a problem once a year for me. The vcr, no more, but the car clock, the wall clocks, my wrist watch, thank god I don't have to set the computer clock.

AmandaBB says:

It always messes me up for weeks an I have enough trouble sleeping already.

Graceonline says:

Oh goodness, yes. If the decision makers don't care for any other reason, they should stop it because it costs us all so much money in downtime, health issues and lost work days. Studies prove that businesses lose money every year when the time changes, especially the leap forward in spring.

David Snyder says:

At first,Ben Franklin advocated DST for farmers(personally,I think it's his 2nd most absurd idea after making the turkey our national bird).Later it was used in both world wars to save usage of electric light. Most farmers hate it & the energy savins are negligible. In southern states it only prolongs the agony of hot, humid days.In northern areas with standard time the sun stays up in summer until 10Pm or so,that means they don't need DST.It's annoying to set clocks back & forth, people get confused by it.Anyway,it almost killed drive-in movies, that was enough reason to abolish it.

Joan4 says:

I would like to see DST year round. and I dislike the government making choices for me, too. One less would be an improvement. Just set time at DST and let's move on!

sittonbull says:

I personally love the additional daylight time gained w/DST, but dislike the abrupt change. It throws off our life-rhythms like traveling through timezones. Time is prominent and inclusive among the 99.9% of objective life decisions, that I don't believe the government needs to participate in! Let's either go back to standard time... or DST... and make it a constant that we can permanently adjust our life-rhythms to!

No way. We should trust what our government chooses for us.

Wildman says:

Daylight Savings is great, I think we should move an extra hour ahead in summer.

blue22d says:

Maybe, I do enjoy the longer "light" days when we can have them. On the flip side, I don't like getting up to go to work when it is so dark outside. Can't have it all, I guess.

TopStyleTravel says:

No, I love daylight saving time. I thrive on sunshine. Some places like Alaska have very long daylight hours. Most people can adjust to it by making the best use of the time. Or close the dark drapes and stay inside.

Lorinda says:

I wish we would stay on daylight savings time all year long. I live in central New York and really hate when it is dark around 4pm. It gets so depressing and people definitely suffer mentally because of it. I would take the sun rising an hour later any day to be able to eat dinner while the sun is still up. I do not like that my only option to not abolishing DST is "No way. We should trust what our government chooses for us". How about an option that says "Make daylight savings time year-round"? Thanks!

ElizabethJeanAllen says:

Its not the farmers. They get up with the chickens and go to bed when the work is done. Its the golfers. They want enough daylight after work to shoot 18 holes of golf.

Seriously, daylight savings time saves energy. When you consider that, we should be on it year-round.

The_Homeopath says:

Well, the thing is, I think we should leave natural time (ha! "natural") alone in the summer, and go on double in the winter too give us a bit more sunlight in the evening. Where I live the sun sets at around 4:30 pm in the dead of winter and it's just so depressing coming home from work or school in the dark. I'd prefer to have it darker in the morning and not feel like the afternoon is really the night.

kab says:

I don't like the two choices you have given for answers. I do not think that Daylight Savings Time should be abolished. I like it. How spoiled are we as a society that having to change our clocks twice a year is such a huge inconvenience? But that doesn't mean I think that our government has always shown that they make good choices for us.

Ener-G says:

Why is it the government waits till war or creates a war to shove stuff down our throats that we don't want?

With so many having sleep disorders it would seem that messing with the time twice a year would not help this any.

DST is a big waste of our efforts. I am sure it served a purpose at one point and time but now we have people working around the clock and it is really just an annoyance.

Great Debate! I wish the time would stay the same. It messes up my sleep and has a reverse effect on me for a week. At least it's on Nov 1st after Halloween then it's not so dark for trick-or-treaters.:)

Interesting. Since it's just always been mandatory, never thought about the why, /- aspects, etc. before. Thanks for another insightfull lens. Something to think about. We do do a lot of silly things for no reason though, or consequently continue doing things that are antiquated or outmoded. I'm for being in harmony with natural rhythms. Maybe it's time to change this. Hugh.

The time change thing has been a pet peeve of mine for a very long time. Is our government the only one in the world that plays with time twice a year? Daylight savings time began with candle light - prior to Edison's electricity lighting up the world. I always wondered why the Time Godz of Washington did not just move the clock backward or forward for only one half hour, and then just leave it alone.
