Technological Developments

Weeks 13-16

The brain is fully developed and the fetus can suck, swallow, and make irregular breathing sounds. Fetus can feel pain (New England Journal of Medicine). Fetal skin is almost transparent. Muscles tissue is lengthening and bones are becoming harder. Liver and organs produce appropriate fluids. Eyebrows and eyelashes appear and the fetus makes active movements including kicks and even somersaults.

At Some Point, it is a matter of trust

Fantastic lens! I gave it five stars, favorited it, and participated in the questions. The answers reveal that most people value life, even before it enters the world. I just started a group called Pro-life Perspective. Your lens would make a welcome addition to the group.

Wow, challenging questions. A "Culture of Life" from conception through to death can certainly say something good about the the value of every person, including ourselves.

Being pro-choice simply means having the choice. It doesn't mean you have to. In the end you have to ask who are the government and religious institutions to tell women what they can and can not do with their bodies. Women should not be reduced to their biology or treated like cattle.

If the State impregnated a woman against her will, and forced her to carry the baby to term, and give birth, regardless of how old she was, even if she was under 16, would that be wrong?
If you think so, you cannot possibly support outlawing abortion, as this would be exactly what you were doing. I think anyone who calls for a blanket ban doesn't understand the problem, or has the utmost faith in their ability to explain to a terrified and traumatised 12 year old who has been raped or abused why they then have to go through a pregnancy and birth. I don't think "but that's not the baby's fault" would cover it really, do you? There are no simple black and white answers to this question, and calling people "abortion hungry monsters" is no part of an adult debate. Most people left name-calling in the playground. Quite right, there are no guaranteed safe abortions, and nor are there any guaranteed safe births.

I am glad to see this lens and pleasantly surprised to see how prolife this group of people is. Planned Parenthood never tells you about the guilt someone lives with after an abortion. It goes against our basic instincts and what makes us human. When I was pregnant, that was my baby, not just a fetus. It doesn't become a non-person simply by being unwanted.
