Carrier oil is the base of your recipe - I use vegetable as an example as it is ONE of the most common oils used as a base oil which is added to your essential or fragrance oils. This mixture of oils helps slow down the evaporation of your essential oils so they can be quickly absorbed into the skin.

ESSENTIAL OILS (EO) - The real thing - oil derived from the actual flowers and plant parts itself.

FRAGRANCE OILS - Synthetic oils made from blended liquids to simulate a certain aroma.

Oil candles for meditation and dry skin

Winter brings long gloomy days in some parts of the country. Oil candles provide 2 benefits. They light up the room and make it smell great, and when you snuff the flame, you can use the oil to sooth dry skin, or use them when you meditate

What is phototoxicity ?

study essential oilsPhototoxicity is what happens when you take certain medications or apply lotions or use soaps with ingredients that make you unable to go out into the sun. You are more likely to burn with smaller does of sun exposure than usual. Always discuss side effects with your doctor or someone who is educated in this area. Usually, oils from the citrus family are more likely to cause this although there are more. Lemon, lime, orange, and bergamot are just a few.

Contact sensitivity happens when you have an allergic reaction to a particular essential oil or solution. It usually shows up as a rash or itchy patch.

I LOVE MAKING HOMEMADE SOAP SO I HAVE BEEN STUDYING OILS MORE CAREFULLY.

One of the best books I own to help understand all oils and additives is Soapmaking the Natural Way. It has simple recipes, simple explanations, and I like the aroma of the recipes. Pages 14 and 15 talk about essential oils and what fragrance notes are.

Are oils safe for kids ??

Remember, do your research first before using on kids. Please do not use oils on kids UNDER ONE YEAR, FOR KIDS OVER ONE YEAR, DILUTE OILS VERY WELL -

Can essential oils be toxic ??

Essential oils should not be used full strength or taken internally (DO NOT EAT OR DRINK). Use caution with oils in young children.

Menthol - one is a major chemical used in a lot of peppermint oils. Although it may be safe in a mixture to be used for sore muscles, it could be unsafe to use on young children - may cause breathing difficulties. IN GENERAL MOST OILS ARE SAFE IF USED CORRECTLY.
