Types of Health Insurance

Choosing the best type of health insurance is a complex problem, because the range of services of insurance companies is rather diverse and is constantly expanding. But there are only three main types of health insurance: Basic Medical Hospital Insurance, Basic Medical Insurance, and Major Medical Insurance.

The Basic Hospital Insurance covers the hospital expenses; often your insurance company sets limits on the duration of hospital stay and the total amount for treatment. State laws, however, regulate the terms of insurance agreements: for example, in New York any company in the provision of "Basic Hospital Insurance" has to compensate your spending for at least 60 days of the continuous staying in the hospital and pay for that term at least 80% of the hospital bills. If these services are not available for you, such type of insurance may be called just Limited Benefits Health Insurance California.

The Basic Medical Insurance is to recover the costs associated with the services of surgeons, physicians and anesthesiologists, enclosing visits to the doctors in the hospital. Health insurance quotes in this type are also limited in time and amount. By the laws of the New York, the basic medical insurance must cover at least four-fifths of reasonable charges for visits to the doctors.

The Major Medical Insurance is to cover the additional costs that arise in the case of a serious illness and beyond the basic medical and hospital insurance. Sometimes the insurance is offered separately, and sometimes - along with other insurances. The amount of the compensation paid depends on the type of insurance agreement and the policy of the company. Sometimes agreement includes coverage of 100% of the costs, but often you have to pay out of pocket some co-payments. Certain insurance contracts require payment of your medical bills only if you asked for help to a certain doctor or at a certain hospital, a list of which was previously stipulated in your contract. Often, the insurance contract requires full medical bills payment if the treatment is held at a predetermined facility and a partial payment in the other cases.

We must also bear in mind that the vast majority of insurance does not involve payment of the medical bills caused by the diseases that were diagnosed prior to the signing of the insurance contract. These diseases include those that are not medical diagnosis was made, but that caused the symptoms that should make prudent person to seek appropriate help. Medical expenses resulting from such diseases are not covered by your insurance company either generally or within a certain time.
