Modern Lapel Pins: Types, Forms and Destination

Today we all know lapel pins as a solid attribute of a holiday, celebration, or as a trendy advertising accessory. Though currently there is great number of badges, which differ by materials, type and purpose. Learn which types of badges exist and what role they play in our lives.

Lapel Pins Classification

Badges at all times played an important role. There is no nation, which in its course of the development missed a period when there were icons. Because the icons - it is much more than just some inscriptions, icons are the history, embodied in the symbol. Each of these characters carries some information, and tells it to its owner. Therefore, the icons have always been very valuable, because they broadcast the events of bygone days, historical events, the family mysteries and great deeds. The symbols that accommodate the icons were not just taken out of the head, but they were pondered long and rigorously, so that these icons could be adorned on arms or ammunition.

Thus, many icons clearly have the elements of ancient symbols that come up with the first people. They have immense power, as they carry sacred meaning. These icons tell us about our origins, about the world and its hidden power. Therefore, icons, in fact, represent an extraordinary opportunity to influence the surroundings.

Modern lapel pins have some less meaning than in ancient times, but nevertheless they are still very important for us. It worth to be mentioned, that lapel pins can vary depending on their production technology, type of a fastener and purpose of its release. Let's consider all these types more closely.

Types of Lapel Pins

All icons that we see in modern life can be of several different types. Each of them, respectively, is used in different situations, which depend on the site of attachment, surface and strength of attachment. They are divided into the following categories:

  • Cloisonné Lapel Pins. This type is used quite often, because such lapel pins look very nice. Most often, they are made of brass. The image is attached to the front side, which is then filled with transparent resin. Thus, the icon looks nice, and, in addition, the image is not damaged even after a long period of using.

  • Photo Dome Lapel Pins. This type of icon is the most popular today, and, unlike the Cloisonné lapel pins, Photo Dome icons are much cheaper to produce. They are made of crimped metal plate with wrapped inside edges. Frame is mounted on top of the tin with the image on the paper, which is laminated on the outside, in order to save the image in its original form and to avoid mechanical damage to the latter.

  • Dry Stuck Lapel Pins. Perhaps it is one of the most difficult to manufacture type of badges. The thing is that they require a more diligent and professional work. In addition, each customer chooses from a list the material of which the icon will be made. Among other things, the complexity of the engraver is also taken into account when referring to the final cost of the entire run of icons. Dry Stuck icons can be painted in almost any colour and can be filled with rubber and without it - it all depends on the willingness of the customer.

Types of Lapel Pins Fasteners

All of the above types of icons can be attached by various fasteners, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages.

  • Stud Pin. This is a type of attachment, in which tissue or any other surface where you want to fix the icon is permeated with specifically pointed icon tip, which is closed with a collet fastener. A stud pin securely fixes the badge.

  • Safety Pin. This type of fixing is widespread in almost all types of badges. A pin is attached to the back of the badge, and fixes the latest on virtually any fabric material.

  • Needle. This attachment is rarely used (the long leg of the lapel pin with a pointed end, sometimes without fixing tip). However, it should be mentioned that it might be useful in many cases. For example, you need to fix the lapel pin on the surface that is soft and thick, but it is not possible to do this with a stud-pin or a safety pin, then the needle fastener would be the best variant.
