About Me: Greg Fournier from ImpartialMail

Although Squidoo provides a LensMaster's page, which might have told you a little more about me, I wanted to create a lens to properly introduce myself to the community.

First of all, my full name is Gregoire, not Greg, but no one calls me that! You've guessed it, I am French, and I have been living in English speaking countries since the age of 5, mostly in the United Kingdom and a couple years in the United States. I did my Business Management and Marketing studies in London, apart from a year in Boston and another in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I speak fluent French and English and I have a very decent level in Spanish.

What else is there to know about me? My professional experience, my company, my hobbies, my interests... Read on and find out!

My Experience: An Email Marketing Expert

Since graduation I've been working in email marketing, this is a quick recap of what I have done.

After university I went into aa email marketing agency, Alchemy Worx. I became responsable for all outgoing client communications, which included major UK retailers, and service companies. This not only gave me incredible exposure to thousands of email marketing campaigns, I also learnt a great deal on email service providers such as DreamMail, Silverpop Engage, Campaign Commander, Experian Cheetahmail, Alterian Dynamic Messenger, Responsys, ExactTarget, E-Circle, Strongmail, and Dolist but also MailChimp, Campaign Monitor and more...

and many more...

When I decided it was time to move on I took on a new position at ServiceMagic Europe, as the Email Marketing Manager. With this job I got to see life from the other side of the business. With this new understanding of the various difficulties and barriers a company might face when planning an email marketing program, I decided to start my own Email Marketing company, ImpartialMail. The company is geared towards helping smaller businesses, providers tend to neglect, start and/or optimise their email marketing campaigns and empowering them to do it alone. We like to call our approach different to everyone else's, we do "Hands-on Consulting". Through tools like Squidoo we hope to spread the word about ImpartialMail and share our knowledge of how to run the most effective email marketing campaigns possible.

I aim to make my lenses as helpful as possible for the people that find them!

My Hobbies: Sports and...

I am competitive and enjoy challenging myself regularly, this is why sports are very important to me.

Muay-Thai ShortsBasket-ball: From a very young age basket-ball was my favorite sport. I played in my high-school team as a point guard and team leader, but quickly stopped after that as my studies were taking over my free time.

Golf: Talk of a challenge! Golf is particularly challenging, and this is what made me take an interest. I'll play every once in a while when I get a chance, it alows me to spend a little time with my retired father.

Muay-Thai: Literally translated: "Thai-boxing" also known as the "Science of 8 Limbs", Muay-Thai is a combat sport in which opponents are allowed to use hands and feet but also elbows and knees. Like most combat sports, Muay-Thai requires an extremely intensive physical conditioning, endurance and explosive strenght and a lot of technique, it has in the last few years become a true passion!

*Muay-Thai shorts are unique, the "flashiness" of your shorts represents how confident/ strong you feel. You're making a statement just by entering the ring in Thai shorts. First impressions count in email as well, I'll often say "the welcome email is one of the most important messages you send".

...Food

I was brought up in a very French and very traditional family which means family and food are both very important to me.

Greg Fournier FoodI grew up in a family where recipes are passed down through generations, and although I was always into good food, I only realised in the last 4-5 years that I was going to need to keep this tradition going. It is with great ease that I picked up this skill that must have been in my blood all along, and I am now capable of producing the most complicated traditional family recipes.

I apologise in advance if you are on a diet, I just wanted to give you an idea of what I was talking about: French gnocci with a tomato bechamel, Grilled sweat-breads with their creamy sauce, Brandy and lobster bisque, a light and fluffy cheese souffle, and soft and salted dark chocolat caramels. I've also added a few of my own favorite foreign recipes to the mix such as the Italian risotto, or the Spanish paella, or even the American burger.

Now admitedly the combination of food and Muay-Thai is a little odd, so I thought I would add that I also know the pains and challenges of being on a diet. Whilst there are many weight categories in Muay-Thai, the physical condition it requires, means every season I need to drop 10-15kg (20-30lbs) in a few months through a low calorie high protein diet... I bring this same determination and attention to detail to the table at work, at ImpartialMail we have a zero tolerance policy on mistakes!

*The picture above is what I call a home made burger, its still only meat between two slices of bread, I simply added a little Greg touch to it... (Thats not Cheddar, its Emmental and an egg... and those are not French fries but home-made thyme and olive oil patato chips...)

...DIY

I've always been a hands-on kind of person, I quickly switched from cardboard to wood as I grew older until I felt confident enough to do my own furniture...

Homemade TV Stand and DeskAs a child I used to build cardboard cat houses, using tape, glue and string; and when I grew up I started using wood, nails and a hammer... I made small objects at first until I got my own place which needed a little work...

I took my flat from a very nice looking little flat to a modern and recently refurbished upmarket flat, or at least I like to think so... It took a lot of work and some help from close friends, but we pulled it off.

DIY is extremely rewarding if you are prepared for it, and abide its main law: Mesure twice, cut once! ...which applies to email marketing... Check twice, send once!

*The picture here shows the conversion of the electric fireplace into a double cabinet for DVDs and a clean and handy TV stand with a large drawer in front; you might also be able to see the sleek pull out desk on the right...

My Interests: Travelling and...

Who doesn't? I'm lucky to have been given the oppotunity to tick off my list a large part of South America, a few locations in the US, all of western Europe, a bit of Africa and Asia, until now...

...Technology

A lot of sports and yet still a geek, I love reading tech news and reviews for products that will come out in 2032.

Greg Fournier ImpartialMailLike most people from my generation my thirst for new tech is unquenchable, and can only be softened by a few select sources of information. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

- Gizmodo
- Engadget
- Ars Technica
- Pocketlint
- Popular Science
- TechCrunch

Hope there is at least one you won't know! These are all very enjoyable sources for the latest tech and gagetery around and to come, although some might have a slight bias, much as I do for Apple products. (I do work on a PC though, as most Email Service Providers do not support Macs.)

...Music

I listen to various styles of music! Here you can find a few sample of the artists I enjoy, in no particular order...

Track Artist Album
I'll Remember April Miles Davis The Best of Miles Davis
Ghostwriter RJD2 Deadringer
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger Daft Punk Discovery
Stylo (feat. Mos Def & Bobby Womack) Gorillaz Plastic Beach

Pick Up Sticks Jon Kennedy Useless Wooden Toys

...Books

In this section I just wanted to share a few books I enjoyed, and might also be relevant to you...

...Movies

Might not suit everyone's taste but I am a big Tarantino fan, but I thought I would also share a few french films:
