Introduction

Hi I'm Sam and I have been researching chocolate at school and home. I even wrote a speech on it! I chose chocolate because my friend got into the speech finals last year with that topic and so I decided to do mine on chocolate too. I found it very interesting and I think you will too.

Types of Chocolate

There are nine types of chocolate and they are: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, unsweetened or baking chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, couverture chocolate, gianduja chocolate, candy coating chocolate and semisweet chocolate. The sweetest type is white chocolate.

What Is Chocolate Made Of?

Chocolate is made of cocoa paste, cocoa butter and sugar. Milk chocolate also contains milk powder or condensed milk. White chocolate contains cocoa butter, sugar and milk but no cocoa paste so it isn't true chocolate.

History of Chocolate

In the late 1700's a steam engine was built to make chocolate paste. In the 1900's they invented a cocoa press to make cocoa butter. The first chocolate bar was made of cocoa butter and chocolate liquor with sugar. This was made by a man called Henry Nestle.

Interesting Facts About Chocolate

  • Chocolate is one of the most popular flavours in the world.
  • Two thirds of the world's cocoa comes from West Africa. Nearly half, 43% comes from Cote d'Ivoire.
  • There have been movies based on chocolate such as "Charlie and the chocolate factory" "Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory" and "Chocolat".

Is Chocolate Good Or Bad For You?

A little bit of chocolate can be good for you because it has antioxidants in it. Antioxidants prevent or slow down damage to the body. They are used in the hope of keeping you healthy and preventing heart disease and cancer. The problem with chocolate is it is full of sugar and fat and can cause lots of other problems if you eat too much.
