Here is a brief article about scams. I voluntarily attend a group every so often and every now and then they leave helpful information leaflets etc on the corkboard and this one about scams was a very interesting read. It is a simple concise write up about what a scam entails and what things to look out for and be wary/suspicious of. Here is the article:

A Brief Talk About Scams

A basic intro on what a scam entails...

SCAMS:

What are scams?

-Scams are nasty schemes designed to trick you into giving your personal details and/or your money.

What forms do scams come in?

-Scams come in many forms. You may receive them through emails, by post, telephone, over the internet and door to door.

*Tip*
-Always ask questions and don't take anything at face value.

What methods do scammers use to get information and/or money?

-GREAT PROMISES:
Scammers make great promises to try and suck you in. For example, they may offer you wonderful prizes, easy money and/or true love. Before they deliver anything they may ask you for your credit card or bank account numbers. However, they never deliver what you expect they only rip you off.

-REQUESTS FOR YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS:
Some scammers may pretend to be legitimate businesses or banks, when they are not. They may approach you by using leaflets, emails, websites or make phone calls that seem like the real thing.

Then they'll give you a reason as to why you should provide them with your personal details -such as your credit card number, your bank password, bank account number etc. But genuine organisations, like banks, don't make uncalled requests like this.

Remember, if you provide "scammers" with your personal details they could steal your identity and/or your money.

WHY DO SCAMS WORK???

Scams are often successful because they look so real. Those nasty "scammers" know how to get to you by manipulating you into thinking they are real.

DANGEROUS MYTHS ABOUT SCAMS:

Myth: The government check all businesses and companies. Therefore any offers you receive are from legitimate organisations.

FACT: Scammers are criminals who can contact you from anywhere in the world.

-------------------

Myth: All internet sites are real and legitimate.

FACT: Fake websites can be set up to look like a real website.

-------------------

Myth: There are shortcuts to getting wealthy that only a few people know about.

FACT: If that were true they would not be telling you their secrets.

--------------------

Myth: Scams only involve large amounts of money.

FACT: Some scammers only target large numbers for small amounts of money. It all ads up to alot if they were successful.

--------------------

Myth: Scams are all about money.

FACT: Not always the case, some scammers try to get your personal information to sell or end up getting more than your money.

---------------------

I hope you find this helpful. I have been scammed on more than one occasion myself so I thought that I would distribute this article on the web to do my bit to help curb the scammer's success in manipulating people out of their dignity, respect and trust.
