Welcome to A Broader View! We offer volunteer projects for the globally-minded individual searching for a unique Ethical travel experience. We are a non-profit volunteer organization offering short term placements opportunities working with international social projects in many countries in development. Our programs are based in South America, Asia, Africa, and provide vital social support to low income communities in need of assistance.

We created A Broader View on the belief that one person can make a difference in the lives of others.

We believe that our programs make a positive impact on the volunteers who travel with us, as well as the local community. We have found that cultural immersion leads to a personal satisfaction that one does not get as a tourist.

Why Volunteer Abroad?

Have you ever considered doing one thing during your life that would make a complete difference to a child less fortunate? Have you thought about volunteering - a week, a month or even a day - your time in an overseas orphanage or school? There are approximately 350 million child-slaves in the world; millions of war-victim children; and starving, sick, abused and abandoned little victims everywhere! The International Labour Organization estimates that 352 million or 23 percent of all children between 5 and 17 years of age were economically active (working) in the year 2000.

The amount of orphans in the World is staggering.  Based on UNICEF 2005 report the number of children living in Chilean orphanages exceeds 200,000. In Peru there are over 2 million children living in extreme poverty; many living and working on the streets. Based on recent UNICEF reports, by 2010, sub-Saharan Africa will be home to an estimated 50 million orphaned children, and more than a third will have lost one or both parents to AIDS.

According to the ONE campaign, "Around the world, more than 100 million children are not in school and more than 60 million of these children are girls. Whether a boy or a girl, every child deserves the chance to go to school and have a hopeful future."

The children of the World need our skills, spirit, time and support. You can make a difference.  Volunteering in another country can be both challenging and rewarding. A Broader View Volunteers is a US based non-profit organization in Pennsylvania. With our love for humankind, and a motivated spirit to help others, we created A Broader View on the belief that one person can make a difference in the lives of others. We are devoted to the support and improvement of communities in need. Our US office is operated by an enthusiastic staff with almost 20 years combined travel and hospitality experience.

We offer volunteer travel placements in many countries which support local organizations in low income communities. A Broader View community-based projects in Countries in develpment allow volunteers to live and work side by side with local people in a range of fields such as orphanage work, day care, community development, teaching and much more. With our volunteer projects, we offer travelers the opportunity to explore a new country while taking part in meaningful, rewarding service work.

A Broader View office is open 9am-5pm (ET) Monday to Friday.

Program Coordination: Including pre-trip Orientation Manual, program set up and preparation materials, in-country placement introduction and supervision.

Accommodation and Meals: Volunteers live with a local host family, or stay in shared volunteer quarters, or at a locally operated guesthouse. Host families will offer private bedrooms for volunteers. All meals are provided, either with the host family, at the volunteer quarters or at the guesthouse.

Ground Transportation: Volunteers are provided arrival and departure airport transfers. Transportation and introduction to volunteer accommodations/host family and to the work site is provided on arrival. *Daily transport costs are the volunteers' responsibility, although we try to confirm accommodations within walking distance to work sites.

Project Coordinator & On-site support: Our local Project Coordinators ensure your program operates as it should. Site inspections and exploratory trips are continuous conducted to ensure program integrity. On-site briefing materials and 24/7 emergency support is provided to all volunteers.

Letter of Completion: Volunteers will receive an official letter from A Broader View outlining the volunteer placement for your resume/CV, or as a letter of reference.

Not included: Airfare and travel expenses, visa and passport fees, airport departure taxes, medical and travel insurance, meals outside the program, sightseeing and free-time expenses, items of personal nature (such as laundry, medicine, emails/phone calls)
