6 Pack Abs - The Correct Way

Incorrect 6 pack abs exercises can cause disc and vertebrae damage leaving you with a life-time of pain or worse! Muscular tears and ligament damage can also result if you use the wrong exercises.

Using the wrong 6 pack abs exercises can be a disaster as I found out first-hand the hard way. Correct exercises will strengthen the abdominal muscles while incorrect exercising could lead to spinal injuries resulting in a lifetime of pain.

A leading wiki page (that has had nearly 1.4 million viewers) on building 6 pack abs recommends the very exercise that has left me with a bad back and bouts of pain for the last 15 years. I was horrified to see it listed as exercise 3 on their list and wonder how many people have been crippled by this free advice.

After I damaged my back by exercising incorrectly, I researched the correct ways to exercise in order to build my abdominals and also what exercises to avoid.

Don't make the same mistake I made, leaving me with a life-time of pain. Get advice from a professional - not the free information on the net. Beware of videos on YouTube teaching the same dangerous exercises.

Read on below for information on what exercises to avoid, and also for a recommended source of high quality information on building 6 pack abs.

6 Pack Abs Exercises to Avoid

These exercises can permanently damage your back

Avoid exercises called a leg lift or double straight leg raise! They are the same thing.

Here is a description of the exercise - Lie on the floor, legs straight out, hands at your sides. Lift your legs straight up (not bending your knees at all) until they're at a ninety degree angle (or close).

Raising or lowering straight legs exercises the hip flexors but does almost nothing for your abdominal muscles, so why is this exercise recommended for building six pack abs? Abdominal muscles are not attached to your legs but will contract to reduce pressure on the spine. However any exercise they receive is minor - this is a flexor exercise as I have already mentioned.

There is a massive downside. Discs and vertebrae can experience compression injuries and muscular tears and ligament damage are other possible consequences of this exercise.

This is an extremely dangerous exercise! Learn from my experience - don't make the same mistake.

6 Pack Abs the Correct Way

Get your six pack training from a professional

The safe way to build 6 pack abs is to get professional advice from a personal trainer.

Mike Geary, who is a Certified Nutrition Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer has written a book - "The Truth about Six Pack Abs". In it he explains his very successful program that has helped thousands of men and women to get hard ripped abdominals - the proverbial 6 pack abs!

The main focus of Mike's program is NOT on abdominal exercises... And, better yet, this program consistently get's BETTER results by NOT focusing 100% on abs exercises!

I know that sounds counterintuitive, but the fact of the matter is that abdominal exercises are ok, and you do need to do a certain amount of them to develop the abs as best as possible. But to be honest, most people that are trying to get better looking abdominals waste WAY too much time training the abs directly. What you really need to focus on is burning off the extra fat that is covering them up.

Let's get this straight right now... Abdominal exercises do NOT burn fat away from your abs! This can only be accomplished through a much more effective full body training routine that maximizes both your metabolic response and your hormonal response to your workouts. This is the main focus of the Truth about Six Pack Abs Program.

After all, you want to focus most of your efforts on the types of exercises, sequencing, and combinations that stimulate the biggest increases in testosterone and growth hormone response. This is the aspect of your workouts that you have probably been overlooking, yet it is the MOST important aspect that is going to get you insanely lean and cut!

You simply don't achieve this hormonal effect by wasting your time pumping away with crunches, situps, torso twists, leg raises, and ab machines.

Now don't get me wrong. Mike will show you the most effective exercises for developing your abdominals to the best extent possible. He also gives you detailed instructions and photos on how to do them properly.
