Black and White Photography

Recently, seeing life through the lens of my camera has really changed the way I see the world. I have grown to love the rich, deep colors of the world and have started incorporating them into my regular life. Don't get me wrong, I am an artist so of course I love color, but colors have changed a lot for me recently or should I say I have changed the way I see color today?

I hated to call this page "Absent of Color" because although black and white are not considered colors I have always considered them to be. Black and white photography has amazed me lately. Although I love my photography with the rich colors, I also really love the black and white shots. I love how the white seems to shine sometimes. I love how the black and white adds an age effect to the photos, yet a rich crispness also.

The Nikon D3100 camera does not have a mode to switch to take straight out black and white photos, but it does have a way to take one of your color photos and turn it black and white, I am sure many of you already know how to do this, but it is something I just learned so I will it with you in a minute. Also, another way to turn a colored picture black and white can be done in photoshop which I will also post in a minute.

Meanwhile, spending time with my camera, and learning new things, I have completely fallen in love with an effect called "Vignette" especially with my black and white photos. It is also amazing on colored photos. I will be sharing some of my most recent photos with you on this page and hopefully add a few tips that you may want to add to your own photography.

As I always say these days, Beauty seen through the lens of a camera

Actually, there are modes to shoot in straight black and white on the d3100.
I found this recently, as I own the 3100, love it, and love black and white photography.
You can shoot in Black and White it modes: P, S, A or M.
Once in one of these modes, press the Menu button and select 'Set Picture Control,' then choose MONOCHROME.
    Have fun!

Love the vignette effect! I think there are some things that just have to be photographed in black and white.

Wow, fascinating. Have never really loved B&W, certainly prefer color, but really enjoyed these photos. My favorite is the moon shot, right here. Wow! gorgeous. Liked your zazzle too. And the Studebaker. Not sure what I am seeing by the special effect. But looks very clear and I do like it. You are doing so well with your art Eva. Well done.

Beautiful perspectives in black and white. The Studebaker with the vignette effect is really awesome.
