Me and My Art

Once upon a time, while I was quietly minding my own business, I stumbled upon a free fractal art program called Apophysis. Now, I don't know about the rest of you but, when I hear free graphics program, my heart starts a'pumpin' and I just have to have it.

After searching around a bit, I came upon a download link for Apophysis 2.02 and promptly installed it onto my computer. Like any good graphics addict would, I then proceeded to do a Google search for tutorials that would help me learn how to use the program. That's when I discovered deviantART.

If there is one place on the Internet that is THE source for all things Apo, it is deviantART. I found a whole host of Apophysis Tutorials there and so much more. There plugins, gradients, starter flames, and what are perhaps my favorite find, scripts galore.

The other thing that I discovered is that not only is Apophysis free, it is also open source software. For those of you who don't know what that means, open source software can be edited by anyone who knows how to write computer programs and then re-released for public consumption. Some of you may have heard of Linux. Linux is a free, open source operating system.

The fabulous thing about open source software is that, because they can, people do improve and re-release it for others to use. In the case of Apophysis, this has led to the creation of many terrific versions, the most important of which are:
- The original and must have Apophysis 2.02. You need to install it in order to run the others.
- Xyrus02's Apophysis7x, which combines the preceding abilities of the 3D hacks with non-3D capabilities.
- And, Apophysis 2.09. The latest release of the non-3D version.

In addition to those there are 5 other version that I'm aware of: Apophysis2.04-JF2b, Apophysis2.06 3Dhack, Apophysis2.06bzplus, Apophysis2.08 3Dhack, and Apophysis2.08 JK but, unless you feel the need to collect them all, like I have, then 2.02 and 7x are all you really need.

Anyhow... after installing Apo and all of the other goodies I had discovered, I opened it up and started to play. That was all it took. I was hooked from the moment I clicked on the transform editor and moved my first triangle!

The play of color and myriad shapes that were created with just the tiniest of tweaks. The beautiful, flowing images that could so easily become intricately woven pieces of finery. It enchanted, enthralled and captivated this poor artist's soul.

My very first creation was the piece I call "Mother." An abstract fractal art image that will always be my favorite because, as a representation of the connection I feel to my son, it is very special to me. Finding that soul connection is what set me upon my path as an abstract fractal artist.

While not all of my art is meant to be a deep expression of my inner being, it is all an expression of my soul. Many pieces are spiritual, most are enchantingly beautiful, a few are a bit dark, and some are just meant to be fun. All are shared in the hopes that I may somehow connect with others who see a bit of themselves in me.

My Bio

According to Jad Alexander, I score as an Artist. I am what he calls an Artist Empath: one who creates their own reality and infuses the realities of others with my own energy & emotions. I am poetic and sensitive. I turn your feelings into creations and share them with the world. Everything I touch turns to song and is freed by the color of my eyes while my spirit dances with the winds and paints delight in the evening sky.
~from the "Book of Storms" by Jad Alexander
