Accent your Media Room with a Movie Theme
Ranked #40,258 in Home & Garden, #663,478 overall
Since your media room is all about entertainment, decorating with a movie theme seems like a natural extension of the function of the room. There are so many directions that you can take with this theme that it's wise to spend a little time first deciding on what direction you want to go: A few possibilities include classic and vintage flicks or Hollywood glam. You could also choose to highlight a particular genre, like Westerns or Hitchcock thrillers, or build your room around a favorite group of movie sequels like Pirates of the Caribbean, complete with a wall mural of the Black Pearl and palm tree metal wall sculpture. Or, maybe you love a legendary movie star, like Paul Newman and you want to create a theme around his career.

Building on Your Theme
Let your decorative choices be guided by your theme. Movie posters are a great place to start and the colors in the posters can be repeated throughout the room in toss pillows, lamps and wall art. While you'll want to keep the walls of your media room in deep subdued tones like taupe or grey, there's no reason you can't add punch and vibrancy in accents and accessories.Take your style cues from the movies as well. If you're using posters of King Kong and Fay Ray on top of the Empire State Building, tie into the time period with art deco wall sconces, sleek black furniture with chrome accents, and jazz metal wall art. If Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Hollywood Westerns are your thing, bring in colors like saddle brown and turquoise and accent with lariats, cowboy boot lamps and a faux cowhide rug on the floor.
Or take a more general approach and paint a wall mural of legendary 'Hollywood' sign on a wall surrounded by posters of legendary actors and actresses. Build a shelf around the upper perimeter of the room and display old cameras, movie reels and canisters. You can spray paint them in silver or gold to make them stand out. Reproduction 'Oscars' intermingled with old movie equipment is a fun touch, or bring in life-size cardboard reproductions of your favorite stars.
Vintage or reproduction movie posters can be found online and the selection is practically unlimited. Stores specializing in movie and music memorabilia, antique stores and resale shops are other sources for posters, lithographs and posters, trays and coasters, pillows, lamps, books - even neon wall signs - featuring movie stars, movies and iconic Hollywood images. Keep the soundtracks of movies in mind for other wall art and accessorizing possibilities: Soundtrack album jackets and sheet music add a fun touch. Or feature Hollywood Musicals as your theme and create a wall full of framed musical memorabilia interspersed with musical and music note wall art.
There really is no limit to how far you can go with a movie theme - just follow your imagination and take your cue from your favorite movies and stars.
